Hey guys,

Today I picked up my Spac cluster thanks to FF member Leonbray and I have put it in, kinda, but now have some questions about the rest of the install.

Tacho wire - big connector, pin 8. The current GL loom has 14 wires in the 16 pin connector and the two on the end are free. That sound right? Pin 8 on the top row should be pin 16 on the connector. Essential to solder it in or can a connector be bought to just squeeze in there and then tape it to the rest of them?

Volt meter - Is 12V normal with a dip below on the brakes normal? Or should I get the alternator looked at? I reckon its a 70A alternator at the moment and I am thinking of an 85A one.

Low coolant and washer levels - is the wiring connectors already there somewhere around the respective areas of the engine bay?

I'm sure I'll have some other questions later on when I get it all working...

Pay a visit to a wreckers for a spare cluster plug, cut it open, and voila! Pins!

You want at LEAST 13.5 but preferably 14v plus. If it's 12v and dips when you use the brakes your alternator's about rooted.

If it's an EA Gl, you will be lucky to find those wires. They do not appear in the standard EA GL loom. You'll need to run new ones - pick up the correct plugs while you're at the wreckers! :)

Yeah i got the tacho working. So thats all good.

Volt gauge now reads approx 14.2 running and just over 12 with key on. So that should be alright.

Does the speedo control the odometer? Because I know my speedo is inaccurate due to a diff change, however what diff I don't know cos the tag isn't there. What i was wondering is can i get someone to drive from point a to point b over say 30kms, and then i do the same to compare readings, and then if there is a difference then that would be a percentage of error?

Eg another car odometer reads 25kms and mine is 20kms so my speedo is 20/25 percent out? Thats not the proper calculation but wondering about the theory.

what about just putting the rear up on stands, marking a wheel and the driveshaft, and counting the revolutions of one to the other whilst turning the wheel by hand.

pretty inaccurate.. i've tried it and didn't work properly considering both wheels turn opposite and play in the diff hemisphere, etc..

I think my idea should work..

this method should work. for each one revolution of the drive shaft the wheel will turn x amount of times giving you your ratio. example if the wheel turns 3 times to the tail shafts 1 it will be 3:1 ratio.

Yeah thanks Leon. I already had all that but its all good. I got it to a point where I know whats going on and everything is working good thats hooked up..
