Single brake light goes out when braking with lights on

I have a funny issue with my break lights on my AU2. When I am driving through the day and put my foot on the brakes, both lights come on.
When I turn my head lights on, I get both tail lights.
When the lights are on and I push the brakes, my right hand brake light comes on brighter as you'd expect, but the left light goes out completely - no brake light, no tail light.

If anyone has any idea what to do about this I'd appreciate it! I can't see the bulb as being the problem but I'm not sure what in the electrics could cause it.

Thanks in advance people!!!!!

Same thing happened in my old mans car when we were playing around with the bulbs, what we did was just swap around some of the bulbs and it worked fine again. But that was a bit strange how it worked again so try that or otherwise i got no other ideas.

I can't figure out what would cause it to work like that, but I'll give it a go anyway. Thanks for the reply!

If anyone has any other ideas...

It's possible you have a bad earth connection on the left side.
Without the tail lights on the brake light earths through the tail light,
and the tail light can earth through the brake light.
But with both the tail lights and brake lights on on the voltage to both globes is the same, so no power flow.

You have to have a difference in voltage across a component for power to flow.

i think you have a single contact globe in one of the taillights, pull both stop/tails out and make sure they have double contact on the bottom.
