Steering wheel installation???

I recently bought a MOMO XR steering wheel for my AU for $220 last one and Brand New.

But I was wondering if anyone has installed one before, because I'm scared to try incase the airbag goes off.

Any idea's welcome.

P.S i'm looking for a MOMO XR Auto shifter.

Re: Steering wheel installation???

easy to change
there should be to screw behind the steering wheel 2 10ml. undo them and then the airbag will lift and just unplug it

Re: Steering wheel installation???

most important part is DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before you even touch the wheel! No Battery Power = No Airbag Deployment, but if you leave it on and start messing with it, expect a big blowup in your face.

The next hurdle is the screws themselves, cos they're not normal screws. You need a specific bit (sorry, cant remember what one) to undo them.

Or, you could save yourself the trouble and get Ford to do it. Shouldnt cost more than $50-60.

Re: Steering wheel installation???

G'Day LOWAU,

Save yourself the hassles and go to a Ford Dealer. I had a leather steering wheel fitted to my AU for $40 at Bayfords in Preston.

Cheers

Re: Steering wheel installation???

Yeh dont try this at home without the right tools and experience.

Battery MUST be disconnected as stated above and you will need a special HEX type screen driver to remove it....

Ford dealers will change it for about 50 bucks...

Also make sure you have your radio code handy as it will no longer work after disconnecting the battery.

Re: Steering wheel installation???

LOWAU, the bolts holding the Airbag assembly to the wheel are a special Torx type which cannot be purchased unless you are a manufacturer or dealer.
Normal Torx has 6 splines whereas this type has 5.
AU2 and AU3 are like this so I expect that the AU1 is the same (EF/EL use a standard 10mm bolt).

As the guys suggested, if your are going to do it yourself, YOU MUST disconnect power.

I add my recommendation to those above and suggest you go to Ford to get it fitted.

Re: Steering wheel installation???

I paid $70 to have one fitted to my AU by Ford. It's not that expensive so get the professionals to do it if you arent sure.
