From the early specks I have checked that the XR had slightly higher fuel pressure and the XR 6 eec wasn't that much different. So I'd try an adjustable fuel pressure reg first. Or buy another one and try to modify it by compressing it some. But keep a spare just in case you stuff up!![That way you won't stuff up!!]
Do a search it has been mentioned about upping the f/p on std regs...
