Can anyone tell if a trip computer will work with a cfi motor?

were they fitted to EA Fairmonts, some EA fairmonts are CFI, so i assume it would work

Should work, how accurate it would be I dunno though.
The CFI amd MPFI setups use the same two-pulse system.
MPFI one pulse operates 3 injectors, 2 pulse operates the other 3. Cfi, one pulse per injector.

Since AFAIK the computer uses a set value to tell it how much fuel was run through on each pulse, you may find it thinks you're using slightly more fuel than you were.
Or, it might be accurate. Each CFI injector should theoretically flow as much in one pulse as 3 MPFI injectors.


Basically, try it. Should work. Helpful huh.

Nope. The Fairmonts came with a basic digital clock. Only the Ghia, Fairlane and LTD scored a trip computer and they were all MPI anyway.

it works, but i wouldnt rely on its accuracy for fuel economy.

i fitted mine when on CFI. it also works while on gas, cause the ECU still thinks its running injectors - but the economy reading would again be out.
