I'm preparing to install a trip computer unit in my EF XR6. I've read the document on the fordmods website but just have one question - exactly how much of the dash needs to be removed to access the wiring looms?

I know the instrument cluster surround has to come off, but I read in another thread that the instrument cluster itself needs to be removed.

Can anyone help out with this?

hey

basically you have to take the instrument cluster out because if you dont its almost impossible to take the plug out to add the other cable (data line).

its quite easy, so dont freak out about it, just take your time and it'll all come good!

if you have any problems go back to www.fordmods.com and theres more info there that will help u too ..

dont think is says on the fordmods site but does EL XRs have the plug already for the trip computer or do you still need to wire it up??

61sg, the fordmods side does mention the EL XR wiring. To quote:

"Only vehicles fitted with a trip computer from the factory will have all the required wiring for the trip computer to function.

This means that for EF/EL GLi, Futura, XR6 and XR8 models YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THESE THREE EXTRA WIRES FOR THE TRIP COMPUTER TO FUNCTION!".
