With the rain these past few weeks my XF has been leaking water into the cabin. Mainly in the drivers side front and a little in the passenger side front as well.
Where is this coming from? Please help driving in a pond isnt fun.
Front windscreen, top seal! most XF's get a little rust in there and let water in, if you dont wanna spend much on it, take the top trim piece along the top off, and run some black sealer along there, then replace the trim, that should last you awhile
Thanks for the reply, its been driving me mad.
Is the trim you refer to on the outside or inside and how do i get it off?
Would i be better off getting a windscreen mob to look at it?
oh sorry, its on the outside you know the piece of metal that runs across the top of the windscreen? be warned they are a prick 2 get back on somtimes, well if you have the money get it properly fixed,
just get it looked at first incase Im wrong....but Im never wrong, thought I was once but I was mistaken :)
Just hope and pray its in the front screen and not futher down the food chain.
under the dash in the vents , blocked vents and rust. yes just what you want.
if it has all the above ,, park it ,,sell it ,, or raid what you can of it and dump the shell in the bin.
All the seals perish and welded seams give way over time and the its near impossble with out Major good old fashion hard workto get it fixed proper.
front screen removed and replace if ,, it breaks.
all or lower half of dash , vents , hoses , cables , carpets, pedals if need be.,, wiring ,
bonnent
f/b/bar
front gaurds
depending on whats in the way under engine bay ,
always cover area with board or big old wey sheet ,
then you can start cutting welding
priming filling painting
put it all back to the way it was ,
and it still leaks.
nar
check all options before the above ,, it can be done but depends on how much you love your car.
I had the same prob!
My leak was the seam right under the dash, rusted through.
I had to take out the wiper motor, wash all the crap out (and there will be lots!) and then I just used shitloads of waterproof sealer.
As a byproduct, i had to take all the carpet out, replace the soundproofing. But now its alot quieter (I probably used twice as much as Ford did)
A way to find out exactly where is, get someone to stick there head under the dash, and then pour water in all the suspect places until you see it come through!
Ive made a habit of removing the passenger wiper and taking off that black grill for the intake every few months and getting the vaccum cleaner in there...vacuming out all the crap/leaves/etc that accumulates in there...
Might be a good thing to start doing..helps prevent further rust etc..
Also check around the metal trim around the bottom of the windscreen..on both the left/right corners there are small drains for the water to go out...mine got blocked with pine needles and the water couldnt drain out...ended up going down near the accelerator..unblocked em and never had a prob since...Check that too!

It will be water inside the wiper cowling. It wells up on the right hand side where the vent opens into the cabin. If you put your head up under the dash..feel above the pedal box and there will be some rust starting to appear. Its as common as the old 'door handles' situation in the XDEF series Falcons. What I did was remove the cowling and seal it up with black metal and silicon. Looks pretty good and wont leak. I did this on my current XE V8...not the XF...that car was in good shape!
