The wiring to my electric fan has been compromized. well ok its screwed up and I want to wire it direct to a switch. The fan pulls quite a few amps, so how should I do this? Should I use a relay with a switch or what because I tried it without and the wires started getting a bit hot. Don't know much about auto wiring but if I am told how to do something I can do it. Just can't seem to figure out how to go about it. thanks

Yes definatley use a relay.

The power feed should be fairly heavy guage wire.

Also consider a fuse.

Pull an inline fused heavy wire dirct to the fan via a relay controlled by a switch in the cab.. and make sure it has a good earth .
Ohms law is your friend .

well, got it done. Installed a relay inline and wired it to the egnition instead of a toggle switch. works like storebought. thanks for the ideas guys.
