I need to check some fuses in the XE i got today. Its a GL wagon. June 84 Build. Now I've searched High and low for the fuse box. Is it hidden under a panel somewhere, cause me got no idea where it is. Tommorrow I will get a gregory's manual on the XE. This should help me, but for now, can anyone tell me exactley where it is.

i thought it was behind the plastic shroud on the right hand side of the steering column,

YEP, undo four plastic screw lokking things(half a turn and they open) you'll need to release handbrake and slide plastic cover over it towards seat. they have glass fuses which are HARD to remove without breaking

Ok, found the fuse box and checked all fuses. The problem I have is the dash is not illuminated. When I checked the fuse box, theres a really tiny fuse, but nothing in it. Its empty. And under it, is written "1.5a ilu ins" Does that mean its the dash lights. When look at the fus box, its the fuse at the very bottom on the right. And its the only small one in the fuse box.

Is the fuse suppossed to be empty for the 1.5a?

try turning the headlight switch clockwise as it should have a dimmer. thats if the thurs power to the dash lights

Me too! Same car. I also wondered why the interior light stayed on when i closed all the doors. LOL and did the same thing in my new cortina just the other day! I did laugh when i realised.
