I don't think there would be anything to worry about, unless you are also going for a more powerful bulb that might cause damage to the silver headlight backing due to excessive heat.

Don't the xenon globes have a different backplate to a H4 globe?

News to me, I was not aware that xenon globes were available...
the only place I've seen them apart from an expensive option in higher end euro cars is in Hella Predator driving lights anything up to $1800 a pop. Where do you get the bulbs, how many $ and can you get them to fit an EA? Love that white light.

These 'globes' are a replacement for normal halogen ones. I fitted them in an EF Fairmont - they give you a whiter light and seem make seeing easier. Whether they give you 30 to 50 % more visibility than normal halogen as claimed, can't say.
DO NOT confuse them with the Euro/Jap PULSE XENON lamp which is a 50 volt system. The 50 volt comes via a 12 - 50 volt transformer. For most Euro cars 95 on, Hella and Bosch make kits to retrofit to existing vehicles. These are a gas discharge lamp which pulse many times per second, emitting a high intensity bright white light. Look for them in the 2000 year on model Merc/BMW/Nissan Skyline/Lexus/Subaru B4 or GTB, Porsche/Audi/VW/Toyota/ and probably anything else modern that is not a Ford. I expect Ford will release them in about 2 models time. Holden will probably pick them up and run with them first, then Ford will then decide to copy.
