I've seen central locking kits for about $30. They come with four solenoids. Has anyone ever fitted a set to an XF, and if so how did you do it. Any advice appreciated.

yep, they are really easy to fit. there is a place where you can mount them on the back door. it is a little metal tag that hangs down and is just the right size. Easy on the front too. just drill the hole where it has been punched in the door and run the cable through the rubber grommet. EASY

Anyway, just a rambel.

Okay, what do you attach the solenoid to?

I installed a cheapie kit to the XD , it was activated by a couple of metal rods. One of the rods was to be connected to the end of the solenoid , the other end to a square-ish alloy block with 2 holes and 4 screws in it. Clip the alloy block over the existing acuating rod for the door lock and screw it down, then pass the actuting rod from the solenoid through the other hole in the alloy block and voila! Worst thing about it is running the wiring
