hi everyone. I have a xf with a posessed heater fan switch. If the car is sat in the sun and heats up inside and I turn of the fan switch on on the dash, it will work on 1 2 & 3 for about a minute. Then it stutters and cuts out. If I switch it off and on again its the same, fine for a minute then kaput If I turn it to number 4 it works fine.

On cooler days the fan will work on 123 & 4 till the cows come home.

Has to be temperature related but I have no Idea where to look. I have replaced the switch with a new one, no difference. I have also replaced the relay under the dash, no difference.

Are there any other switched or relays anywhere that could cause this.

Thought of a loose wire but this doesnt explain why it only happens on hot days.

If anyone has had this trouble or has any ideas it would be great.

I'm guessing you have a problem with the fan resistor pack. The resistor pack controls the speed of the fan except for highest speed, hence why yours runs on 4 fine.

I'm not sure where the resistors are located in an XF though.

could it be a blown fuse? my xd's fan switch shat itself many times over and i've replaced the switch about 4 times (not the prob)...im guessing it might be a fault wire (the heat expands and moves wires), probably not it but worth having a look over with a ciruit tester
