I have a ED XR8, and have a problem with the headlights,

Whenever i turn on on the high beams the main headlights go off and just the parkers and the high beams stay on

are they supposed to do this??

would really like to know so i can fix this

All four headlights are supposed to be on when hi beam is activated.

Looks pretty dark without the low beams as well, doesn't it?

I have the same problem, but mine is because I recently had to install a new combination switch (indicators wipers etc) when I installed cruise control to the car.

The replacement combo switch was from a standard falcon, not an XR, so the switch is different. I am trying to rectify the problem now.

If this could be your problem, then I will keep you up to date with how I go.
