Thirty years ago, nobody at Ford bothered to register the GT40 trademark. But the automaker shouldn't have to pay much for it now.

That was the consensus of more than 50 percent of the folks who took part in the 14-day Automotive News online poll.

Ford said the $100,000-plus supercar will be badged the 'GT' when it goes on sale, likely in late 2003. Safir GT40 Spares, the Ohio company that owns the 'GT40' name, made an offer to Ford that was just too pricey for the cost-conscious automaker.

How about GT44. Gets away with paying the US$40 million and also shows that the car has moved on to the next generation.

Just to think that they went ahead and started all the advertising and print ads and everything else in regards to this. Pretty much a shame, but that is what happens.

What about the whole internet domain thing, how u can't sit on a name for no reason, couldn't Ford put forward a case on those grounds?

what domain name? this one? Because the thread if you are talking about the GT40 is about the TM of the name not a domain name.
