Back in 2005, Kinetic Motorsports began preparing a Ford GT for competition in the SPEED World Challenge. But apparently they met opposition [corporate?] and the project wound up stillborn. From the looks of the shop photos at the team's website, it looks like the car is still in their possession.

It's certainly a beautifully prepared car--in fact, it looks like the Matech GTs currently racing in FIA GT overseas took a lot of cues from this car. Thoroughly modern, but without altering the essential "character" of the design. The lines flow much better than the versions running in ALMS, or the almost silhouette-looking one running in Japan's Super GT. It could arguably be considered the "first new GT prepped for sanctioned competition" in the US, even though it never turned a wheel in anger[?]
I can't help but wonder what that will do for the value of the car over time--if they'll leave it in racing form, or return it to streetgoing trim? It's also a shame we'll never know what kind of performance numbers the KSS car would have been able to turn in comparison to other SWC cars...
