Saleen under consideration as company to produce Ford's GT40


One of the players in the sweepstakes to build Ford’s GT40 is Steve Saleen, maker of GTS-class S7R race cars whose company is currently hustling to get the street-legal S7 supercar to customers this month.
Sources say Saleen is among the companies under consideration for the job to produce the limited-production $100,000 car, but nothing is final. Also getting lots of consideration is Roush Industries Inc., which played a part in building the retro-styled, rear-engined 500-hp GT40 show car revealed at the Detroit auto show.

SVT to handle engineering and product development for GT40


Ford’s own Special Vehicle Team will handle engineering and product development for the limited-production GT40 due in 2003 to coincide with Ford’s 100th anniversary.
But while SVT’s involvement means the $100,000 sports car is even more likely to get the 500-hp, supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that SVT built for the show car, no decisions have been made on a producer for the car.

Saleen and Roush Industries are under consideration.
