Does anyone on here own a Ford Laser SR2 or Mazda 323 SP20? I am seriously considering one of these as the basis for a hot hatch and would greatly appreciate anyones thoughts or experiences with either of these vehicles.

I am favouring the SP20 at the moment based purely on its more aggressive styling. Is there much of a performance aftermarket for these cars (eg. headers, intakes etc)?

Any info would be great....

My bro's got a SR2, not a bad car. They handle pretty good, still got the same engine as the old laser tx3's had with a lil more power an his old tx3 had the living shit thrashed out of it for about 100,000 kays while he had it an then me after, and had no problems with it other than replacing the gearbox after a he went through a phase off racing( an quite often beating) wannabe mick doohan's on their road bikes through the adelaide hills. His lil habit of holding it flat in first with a bit of pressure on the gear lever till it hit the rev-limiter an popped out of gear, stabbin the clutch an bangin it into second an wheelspinnin away probly didn't help it either. Had to replace the clutch as well !!
The aircon eventually packed it in after i sold it to a mate, but that is the only mechanical problems to date. Oh an he had to replace the computer last week after it ****ed up.
Never used stuff all oil in it's life of pain.

I'm pretty sure XR8Fella own's a SR2 and from what I've heard from him he love's it,I am also looking into one of these vehicle's,I think their great and the Laser name is pretty synomous.

It's not the old BP1800 TX3 engine (which is still in use in the MX5 although heavily updated) It's a different 2L engine I think it was used in the 626 or something as well except it's tuned for premium fuel.

Yeah its the 626 motor which is basically a bored or stroked 1.8l 323 motor

I own a 2002 SR2 - Quicksilver. A great car for sure. Unfortunately I need to sell it for a trip Im going on at the end of the year - its for sale at the moment if you want it?

Yeah it is the old Mazda 626 2.0L.

Does anyone know if the SR2/SP20 came with cruise control in manual/auto versions? I have seen some adverts with them listing cruise control, but I am yet to see one and did not think it was available. I really want this feature

Sorry WazzaXR, I cant afford it just yet, and I am still favouring the SP20 at this stage

I dont think they had cruise fitted as standard,but you could option it,that's on the SR2 the SP20 may have been different I'm not sure.
