Mazda Recalls 21,114 Tribute, Ford Sport-Utilities
Tokyo, Sept. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Mazda Motor Corp. will recall 21,114 sport-utility vehicles including models it builds for Ford Motor Co., which owns a third of the Japanese automaker, to fix electrical problems.
The company will recall Mazda Tribute and Ford Escape vehicles made between October 2000 and June 2001 because of an electrical problem related to the rear brake lights and the transmission, said Mazda spokesman Katsumi Yoshitake. He declined to say how much the company would spend to repair the faults.
Mazda's domestic Tribute sales halved in the January-July period to 4,095 vehicles, compared with the year-earlier period.
Mzda shares rose 1.4 percent to close at 293 yen in Tokyo.
