Sophisticated high performance best describes the direct injection, turbocharged Mazda6 MPS concept car, which makes its world premiere at the Paris motor show later this month.
Focused on delivering even more Zoom-Zoom, the Mazda6 MPS concept boasts enhanced driving dynamics courtesy of 206 kilowatts of power and all-wheel-drive.

The car�s styling has also been enhanced with the MPS concept, which is based on a Mazda6 hatchback, boasting a more sporty and aggressive appearance than the already much-admired standard car. The Mazda6 range of sedan, hatch and wagon models went on sale in Australia this month.

Powered by a new, direct-injection, turbocharged version of Mazda�s 2.3-litre MZR engine, the powerplant combines low emissions and excellent fuel efficiency with high performance.

Delivering 206kW at 6,500rpm and 360Nm of torque at 3,500rpm the Mazda6 MPS concept qualifies as a serious driving machine. However, the engine meets all relevant low emission regulations including Euro IV and ULEV standards in the USA and Japan.

To make best use of the engine�s impressive power and torque a sophisticated traction system is employed, effortlessly transmitting the power of the Mazda6 MPS concept car to the road.

The Mazda6s�s all-wheel-drive system, which is available in some overseas markets, has been upgraded in the MPS concept with it gaining active torque control. The result is an electronically controlled torque-split, all-wheel-drive system that is capable of delivering ultimate tyre-to-road contact at all speeds.

A torque responsive rear LSD (Limited Ship Differential) to maximise cornering ability is also standard.

The Mazda6 MPS concept drives through a six-speed manual transmission with its ratios spaced to make best use of the engine�s impressive torque peak. Appropriately for a high-performance car, the shift provides short throws for fast, accurate gear changes.

Styled at Mazda's European R&D Center in Oberursel, Germany, the Mazda6 MPS concept reflects sporty sophistication combined with powerful dynamism.

The front of the car features a restyled version of Mazda�s five-point grille, as well as an air intake design similar to the one featured on the RX-8. The larger front bumper complete with large air intakes and more aggressive rear styling not only enhance the car�s looks but also improve its dynamic stability.

Flared wheel arches and 18-inch tyres further emphasise the car�s performance character, while the Mazda6�s underlying sportiness and quality are highlighted by new, Silver Storm paint.

The fun-to-drive spirit of 'Zoom-Zoom' culminates in the superb handling of the Mazda6 MPS concept car.

To best match the high engine output and traction system, the Mazda6�s high-mounted double wishbone front and rear multi-link suspension systems have been fine-tuned, while suspension parts and the car�s body have been strengthened to further improve handling and grip.

Lightweight, �spoke mesh� aluminium wheels complete with low-profile, 18-inch tyres intensify the outstanding driving experience.

In addition to the electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system, the Mazda6 MPS concept car is equipped with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and ABS anti-lock brakes.

Inside, the Mazda6 MPS concept features high quality, fashionable black and white leather seats as well as aluminium trim highlights.

The Mazda6 MPS concept offers the driver a keyless entry system, metal-textured, deep-blue instruments and an engine start button.

Mazda's midsize Mazda6 MPS Concept will mark another world debut for Mazda when it appears at the 102nd Paris Auto Show to be held in France from September 26 through October 13. The top-end concept model for the Mazda6 series was developed to show off the car's sophisticated high-performance potential. Focused on even more driving pleasure, improved dynamics, and enhanced stylishness and expression in exterior and interior design, the all-wheel-drive concept of a top-end Mazda6 is a contemporary proposition for an ultimate "Zoom-Zoom" machine. Mazda will exhibit the Mazda6 with a newly developed MZR-CD direct injection diesel engine, which will be introduced in the European market this fall. It employs the new common-rail injection system and delivers superb driving dynamics, while also considering the environment.
To reflect an atmosphere of sporty sophistication combined with dynamics and power, the front of the car bears a new version of the five-pointed grille as well as an air intake design similar to the one featured on the RX-8. Much more than a bold design statement, the enlarged front bumper and the rear spoiler both play an aerodynamic role in enhancing the overall appearance of the concept car, while also improving its dynamic stability. The sportiness of the car's body is emphasized by a new type of paintwork called "Silver Storm" to promote a high-quality feel with its subtle shine.

The interior has been designed with specific attention to material quality, having "genuineness" as its theme. Based on black, the speedometer combines deep blue and a metallic texture to express "functional beauty." The leather seats feature a fashionable black-and-white color combination for an elegant flair. To improve convenience and add to its sporty feel, the Mazda6 MPS comes with a keyless entry system and a simple engine-start button.

The newly developed direct-injection turbocharged 2.3-liter engine promises low emissions and excellent fuel efficiency while boasting 276 high-performance horsepower. An all-new traction system is employed to transmit the power of Mazda6 MPS concept car onto the road and combines with an active torque control, resulting in an electronically controlled torque-split 4WD system suitable for high-performance cars while providing precise tire-to-road contact even at high revs.
