WTB: Registerable Dirt Bike

Anyone have a dirt bike that they want to sell which meets the following criteria (Sydney-Canberra area preferred):

- prefer four stroke 400cc or more although a CR500 would be attractive!
- registerable
- disc brakes
- prefer water cooled

I want a long travel light weight bike such as one of those moto-x types, or XR Honda type. Been a lot of years since I had a bike so I know little of the models available, except to know I would avoid buying a new bike.

email me at: aussie.pete@fordforums.com

....or post any ideas!

G'day mate,

first of all, at least in South aust. CR500's are definately NOT registerable. If you are after a moto-cross bike then most of them ( with a few rare exceptions on some new bikes) are two strokers.

The bike you want has to depend on the style of riding you are planning to do most. An XR400/500/600 etc... is a good four stroke bike with all of your neccessary road stuff like lights. The honda CR range does not have any of this.

How old are you planning on going??

hope i helped a little

cheers

steve

Pete,

I wouldn't reccomend a Two stroke as for highway riding i don't think there too practical and blow smoke and you need ear plugs riding them. An XR400 would be decent for your needs i reckon.
4 stroke 400cc, decent suspension travel.

Can i ask why your after a dirt bike? Is the XR8 at herrods and you need transport.

I think a GSX-R 1000 would suite you.

Actually, the CR Honda range has registration kits available. Just as the YZ and others do. As for age, it doesn't matter as long as it is a good bike and has the basics I listed.

Dirt bike is a fitness/mid-life-crisis thing. Been watching ESPN's UltimateX movie too many times!

Agreed. We must do it when I get back.
As for the VB thing - I HATE VB. Budweiser isn't that bad although I've been sticking to Fosters Oil Cans.

Pete , you cant go past an XR600 , with Ballards (the Herrod of XR Honda's) gear (exhaust systems etc...)
I had an 1997 XR600 like this and it was awesome , great bike.
Go 4 stroke and you wont regret it.

Agreed. Had a TT600 Yamaha a while back and loved it. Weight is the only issue I can think of for this type of bike this time around.
