Curious if anyone has had the same problem.

Recently purchased a Terri AWD, and got bogged on sand. What was interesting was that rear wheels were spinning, however nothing was happening with the front wheels. Would have thought that should have at least seen one front wheel doing something.

Spoke to local ford service department, but they obviously had no idea - suggested using the 4wd button...

Anyone heard of this?

Probably something to do with the traction control system, as when you're bogged and have wheels spinning, the TCS may be removing drive to the wheels it thinks have no traction???

I remember reading somewhere that in this situation you need to disengage the TCS.

I can't believe they have the hide to call themselves a 'ford service department' with this sort of advice.

I have no explaination for what you experienced. Though I agree with Burnsi, turn traction control off in sand before you get bogged.

it is because the AWD has open diffs, there is no LSD or locking function for the centre diff [or any other diff]...as the traction control manages it...
