Ask the dealer if the car has been allocated a SIDO number which means it has been "allocated" a build time or has become a physical body within the plant which can be tracked very accurately. Don't be surprised if for example the build start date is listed as 1/4/2005 and the completion date is some 5-10 days later as although a car rolls off the line every few minutes it doesn't mean that from first body welds to final QC OK that all was completed within one day. Also from factory holding yard to shipping around Australia, to dealer holding yard, dealer delivery work including fitting of dealer supplied options also all adds up. Maybe also the new export orders for South Africa have pushed things back a little?

Small tip (not sure how often you've bought new cars so sorry if old hat advice), on picking up of the car, do so in daylight not at the end of the working day when everyone wants to go home, look over the car very carefully and have any issues that require dealer attention noted in writing and co-signed before accepting the car formally.

I should add that in my own BA Futura's case a replacement of bonnet (decided by QC within the plant) needed the car to go back into the paint shop which caused a further delay of 10 days as it needed an allocated time to fit in with production. It took a month from start to finish just to reach the holding area at the plant and then longer before shipping to the dealer where it also took a few more days before it was brought to the dealer's workshop for installation of more accessories.

Hope all goes well.
cheers.

Re: Delay In Territory Delivery

In a way to get Ford to give you some firm date for delivery, tell Ford to offer you a loan car because your car has been sold, and if they don't hurry up with your car you need one. They hate giving loan cars. I had to wait for my previous car (Falcon XR6) and they kept putting the waiting times back further and further. I told them that my work had no cars left to give me, and that I would cancel my order and buy a Commodore. This made them literally beg me to take a Fairlane loan car. I was happy, and Ford got to keep my sales. My Territory was a run-out model so there was no wait.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Delay In Territory Delivery

Requesting loan vehicles doesnt change the build timing of a vehicle. The suggestion to get a SIDO is the best. Vehicles can be prioritised by dealerships within limits, to get it built as early as possible but thats about it. The only other option open to a dealer is to search Australia for an identical/similar vehicle and negotiate with that dealer to get their earlier build unit. In regard to saying you will cancel an order, the Retail Buyers Order is a binding agreement and you should be DEFINITE about your purchase BEFORE you sign!
Hope that helps
T.

I Ordered mine on the 5 Jan and was quoted 6 to 8 weeks delivery.
Since the dealer was up-front with the time I had no issue with it. As it turned out the car was delivered on the 18 February which is 6 and abit weeks so it was on the earlier side of their initial estimate. Overall I'm quite happy with the delivery times. Worst car I've ever had (In ALL respects) was an Alfa I bought when I was young and foolish. Delivery time kept shifting and finally car was delivered 6.5 months (26 weeks!) after initial order. And as I had signed the order form could not cancel.

Wello, why do you use capital letters everywhere, but "i Am" is not? Is this deliberately?

Glad to help and would welcome the feedback.

I mention the careful look around because I noticed on our car during collection small yellow scratches on the rear quarter panel above the bumper and remembered the day before seeing our car parked within the service area chained off with the links attached to yellow metal posts...you get the picture. Anyway I insisted on the damage being noted on my delivery acceptance form before signing off and requested a counter signature from the salesman and a photo copy for my record. Come 3000km service where I asked for this damage fixed, you guessed it, I was told it can't be a warranty claim. If not for the signed copy of the acceptance form which I had waiting in the glove box you can imagine what might have eventuated. And to think the salesman on delivery actually said "you can live with that" to which I replied "only if you can live with me calling my finance company to cancel the EFT".
