electrical faults

hi i have a new territory tx and every so often the speedo and tacho needles will drop down to zero, the ac fan will stop and the radio go to half volume, also sometimes some of the warning lights will come on. all this happens with no loss of engine power . so i pull over turn the car off turn it back on again and get totally different warning lights. turn it off again and start her up and dont get the problem for 2 weeks . ford service tells me they cant find anything wrong . has anyone heard of anything like this before?

Re: electrical faults

did u have anything fitted into the car like a mobile, UHF radio or something else electrical? ..... an alarm .... stuff like that?

if you did ... I'd get someone to check the integrity of the installation ... whether they affected the wiring looms and so on in the instrument panel/dash ... etc

from what you said ... it appears to be something electrical obviously.

Re: electrical faults

nope , fully standard except factory cruise control [which turns itself off every so often] problem first happened with 500 k on the clock.

roll Re: electrical faults

Since all these instruments and controls hang off the upper level of the CANbus, sounds like one controller is chucking a wobbly intermittently, then resetting when power is cycled. Could be a bugger to locate the faulty bit too!

Re: electrical faults

None of those problems - touch wood.

But the courtesy light above the passenger vanity mirror didn't work (fixed now) and I have had the battery replaced under warranty due to low cranking power. Sometimes could not turn-over a hot engine which didn't give me a lot of confidence each time I hoped in to start it. It was flat when I first picked up the car - they jump started it to get me on my way.

Re: electrical faults

You might also get them to check that all the BEM connections are securely click-locked into place.
