Front Suspension Noise

I have noticed a lot of front suspension noise when i brake
heavily, is this a common noise or am i the only one with it??
Hopefully someone with a mechanical explanation has the answer.
I am extremely wrapped in my new terra, what a machine , this has got to be the best all rounder i have ever seen.
I live in west oz [ sand country] and cannot wait to try out
the girl in some soft stuff.
I have an AWD TX with bar, side steps , roof racks , 7 seats,
alloys, neoprene seat covers, window tint and rust prevention pack, and i cannot get the wife out of the car.
I have also noticed a loty of rubber wear on the drive belt ,
anyone else copping this.
cheers wello

Re: Front Suspension Noise

I have no front suspension noise, but I do get the occasional brake groaning noise, especially after I've washed the Terri.

The rubber wear on the belt is also on mine, I noticed this start after a week of ownership and have noticed it on a lot of BA falcons, seems to be common. Maybe a slight misalignment of a pully.

Have the dealer check out your suspension noise just in case.

I had a clunking noise, especially applying the brakes while reversing. The deler "tightened up" the front suspension during the 3000k service and I have not heard it since.
Let them know and they will fix it ;-)

Re: Front Suspension Noise

Hi All

I have had problems with front suspension noise on my 05 Terri (Ghia RWD). It sounded like a 'clunking' noise whenever I went over a bump or the weight was brought to the front of the car (ie. under braking). The car went into FORD service last week and I took an engineer out to listen to the noise. Upon driving no more than 10m, the guy heard the noise and immediately knew what it was.

Apparently, they've had a few T's back for the same issue. The spring on the shocker becomes dislodged (if that is the right diagnosis) from the base and becomes twisted and therefore does not sit back in its correct position. It then continues to rub against the side of the shock. They had to strip the front suspension down and install a modified spring from FORD. All taken care of under warranty of course and good as new again now.

So if anyone has similar problems, this could be what it is. Hope this info is of use. Cheers.

Re: Front Suspension Noise

Our's has developed a problem in the last day or so that sounds the same as what factorthirty describes. I'm going for a "diagnostic" drive tomorrow to thrash it a bit and try and recreate the noise.

Wello- how did you go with your noise? What did it sound like? Is it the ABS self check noise that others have described in another post click here.
