RAPTOR:
I have croped the 'tyre size' marking from one of the hi-res pics I have seen. Its not 100% conclusive however I am pretty sure it reads "P235/ 50R17". It does look a bit like "P285" however that would be far to wide (the tyre doesn't look anywhere near that wide) so I think 235 as the width seems about right.

The front has been tamed down a bit from the R7 but still nice!! I wonder if we're gonna see the 4wd Commodore Wagon at the Motorshow.

I'm not after full-bore off road capability. I'm not after something that'll get me through the worst the Kakadu has to offer.
But as an 'infrequent offroader' who buys a 4WD for more than just Pose, Safety-in-Height and Visibility reasons, I want something that I can actually take offroad at least once a year. A 6-Speed manual or 5-Speed auto, which are both rumoured to be in the pipeline, with a super-low first gear is all I'm after.
How hard would it be to fit a different gearset to the first gear? It certainly wouldn't require development of a new driveline, although it would require additional qualification yes.
Such a small investment could make the world of difference to buyers like myself.
How many large 4WD owners out there haven't made their choice under the pretext that they -would- go off road once in awhile? Wouldn't it be a good idea to be able to attract the city 4WD owner AND the infrequent offroader? Appeal to the 'new' Crossover market segment and the substantial existing Infrequent Offroader segment at the same time?
On every other merrit, the Territory looks to be a great car, you'll get no argument from me about that at all.
But without a doubt, the lack of low range will hurt.

Thanks XR6VCT, not so tiny afterall.
You'll find that 235/60/17 is a more common size and I don't think they look like 50 profile so I think it reads 235/60/17 which is around 28" tall.

Yeah the profile does look quite large. To large for a 50 series. 60 series would make more sence. It prob is 60. Just need someone at the MMS to have a good look at the tyre to see.

I'm not usually a fan of small/mid sizes 4WD's but this one looks good. I think the global trend by most other car makers is to produce these sorts of vehicles and are becoming increasingly popular among buyers.
Personally i liked the R5 4 door ute concept better but i spose ford had to look into the future- these cars may have been popular for the time being but the trend towards the other cars may have over riden it. There are also the costs involved with tooling etc for each vehicle

Lukeyson
That's what I'm hoping for too Lukeyson, I granny low first gear.
It was never going to have a full-on low range which just creates massive overlap in ratios anyway. Then add some tricky "hill decent control" utilising the ABS and onboard brainpower and it'll go anywhere I want to take it.
