After having a look in the engine bay at the employee launch today I can see why Ford have stated that the V8 won't fit in the Territory engine bay. The steering shaft runs straight next to the exhaust manifold on the straight six due to the front mounted steering rack which is in a different location to the Falcon. Putting a V8 in the engine bay would basically have the steering shaft hitting the side of the engine especially with the wide 5.4 litre engines. I can't see the Territory ever getting a V8 so that would explain why the turbo 6 seems to be the hot ticket.

Then it would have to revert back to the Falcon front suspension that wasn't designed for AWD and a higher ride height like the Territories Virtual Pivot front suspension.

There was an interview with Geoff Polites in Aust Muscle Car where he states categorically that the Territory will never have a V8.

Mistake. Why design something that way...... As good as this car is the V8 market is a fundamental part of the Aussie culture - towing boats etc etc.

I'm sure an AWD FPV Territory with 270kW, 550Nm & an 4.10 diff ratio will have no problem towing anything this side of the Queen Mary II.

Will also outrun anything with a Barra 220kW and scare a few GT owners. V8's are an interesting past time, but they're not the be-all and end-all that some make them out to be.

And once that motor comes out in the Typhoon, FPV won't be able to build enough of them in Falcon or Territory guise to keep up with demand.

Surely you guys have heard of steer-by-wire? No steering shaft to worry about then!

Sure it's only in the top end sport/luxo segment at the moment.
Just like curtain airbags and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) was a few years ago.

There's more than one way around this perceived problem.
Think of it as an opportunity :)

Don't be fooled by the drivel of specs on paper when it comes to towing. I suggest you all approach reality of the towing market. Sometimes, even in the best conditions you simply won't get the driveability offered by a large capacity engine with instant throttle response. There's simply times when pulling a boat out of the water isn't going to let that turbo spool up as much as you'd hope or give you the revs you need. There simply isn't a replacement for a good V8 in this market.
