Territory sold 1716 in October, just pipped to 5th place in the car market by Magna by a few units. Prado is pretty steady at 1353, Kluger rising slightly (613) I imagine due to a pretty desperate price cutting and advertising campaign. Adventra has crashed to 79 units.
I think the V6 version next year will determine if it makes it to VE. That said, I think Holden has made a dreadful mistake in not getting this car up to VZ spec and V6 now. I would certainly have looked at it if it had the 190KW V6 - 20l/100 in the V8 was simply too scary, as was the old A4 gearbox and dead steering.
Holden will be kicking themselves for a few years until their Territory "competitor" comes out - by which time the Territory will be into it's next update.
Holden DID however sell a LOT of cars last month - nearly the same as Toyota so obviously, as a whole, their strategy is still OK - I didn't see where the big sales were, possibly the Commodore?
holden do have quite a few large supply contracts to companies (can't change now even if they wanted), so their over all sales will be supported...
what i do now is that it's not the adventra that's hurting them the most... it's Crewman..
If you look at the cars that holden are selling and are pretty much losing money on, you wouldn't think they'd be doing too well when it comes to profits...
domestic Monaro - dwindling
Vectra - no good
adventra - flop
Crewman - (cost of program was very high also) - flop
There's allot of development costs there going down the toilet...

I was looking at the Adventra, I was waiting for the V6.
Then the Territory came out, and the rest is history.
The Crewman was an issue of them merely proving that they could make a million body types from one platform - sort of an internal marketing issue.
What Ford's proven is that sometimes a different sort of car needs a different platform. The trick is to have components that are usable in different platforms - such as control blade - and to have a scalable architecture. The Crewman has too many compromises to be useful because it's based on a car architecture. The Territory has a more upright seating position that allows better interior utilisation and therefore doesn't need to be as long as the Crewman.
If a tray-back Territory was made with a 5 seat interior then it would be much more usable than the Crewman. Ford is sensible enough however to realise what a waste of money this is.
Holden's 4WD investment will only start making returns in VE when hopefully you can buy an SS with 4WD from Holden - it does however need to be lighter. If Subaru can make all their Australian-market cars 4WD AND light-weight then it's not impossible. All suggestions are however that VE will be as heavy as BA so adding 4WD will mean a 2 tonne sedan :-(
A lot of guys in the building/supply industry like the Crewman because they have a 5 seater ute that can be used for work & to cart the family around & use as Tax right off.

Love my Terri
Exactly my story. Had an Outback wanted a bigger crossover vehicle. Commodore 4wd (Adventra) sounded perfect. Howver only came out in a V8 and lots more expensive than the Outback. Never thought I would own a Ford, but so far very happy.
