Well what about 100% city driving, albeit totally by my wife who is a lot more frugal with the throttle than I, and the trip computer is sitting on 13.4l/100 after 350k - and before you comment on the accuracy of the TC - it reads slightly pessimistically (previous comparison saw 12.75 actual vs 12.9 displayed). So again, real-world figures aren't anywhere near what magazines publish.

So you're right...it's going cost the Territory owners more in fuel than the average size-challenged Escape owner....but at least you'll be able to use the $1000-odd saved to book a week at the "Suffer no more BS from your Motor company" workshop and spa...and probably have enough left over to subscribe to "Why am I Negative" magazine!

Re: Off Road Territory

Gee, if you like to quote DRIVE, what about what they had to say about the Escape......
"Modest performance. Awkward American-style column gearshift. No cruise control. Obvious cost-cutting with utilitarian trim and radio, and unimpressive gauges. Lap-only belt in the rear centre seat. No manual transmission available."
I dont mind paying extra to own a Territory that has superior and car like handling, enough room for an extended family (if required), an interior that is a pleasure to be in, and an exterior design that is modern and attractive (unlike the 80's throwback design of the Escape).
And considering the Territory has only been on the market for a couple of months, how the hell do you know anything about resale value??? (Oh, it was probably in DRIVE....)

Top stuff you've dug there.

I don't know why he hasn't just limited his wisdom to the Escape forum...ohh, that's right there isn't one!!

Even most people on this forum agree that the Territory is thirsty on fuel.
Its just fact, its not being negative. With such a heavy vehicle I knew that fuel consumption would be very high - having owned a BA XR Turbo. If Ford do something about this aspect in particular, you will find more people turning to it. The whole point of forums is to give your opinion, not just blow sunshine up each others rear ends ...

Are your 12.5 figures based on RWD or AWD ?
> Try 80% + city driving and see what happens to your fuel consumption.

I just got a new ZB Escape Limited, so dont tell me I cant afford a Territory, just made a conscious decision - as per my reasons in my previous post....
I never said it didn't mind a drink but nothing like the figures you were quoting. As for more people turning to it don't you think curent sales figures show it is succeeding and Ford should have no concerns ? How does it compare with Escape sales ? Surely Ford has shown that they believed there was greater market for the design of TheTerritory than that of the Escape and were right. And where did anybody say that you couldn't afford a Territory. I have test driven the Escape and X-Trail for comparison against the Territory and there is no comparison but each to their own to suit their own circumstances.
