Normally they only failed from lack of lubrication.

Was it a drive shaft CV joint or the tail shaft joint?
Drive shaft joint and I think they said the bearing hadn't been case hardened or something like that. Definitely a component supplier problem. May still be tomorrow before it is back on the road.

Well at least they found it fairly quickly & gave you a loaner.

I suppose we should expect stuff like this happening, with all of us being the first to purchase the first of a complete new model. But it is still very annoying.

And don’t think that manufacturers like BMW & Mercedes don’t have similar problems, just have a look at http://dynamic.dotars.gov.au/recalls/Search_results.asp
