OK I'm convinced

Well after 3 months of devouring every possible piece of news on the Territory including being a silent viewer of these forums, yesterday was the big day - pick up the Lightning Strike AWD Ghia.

As a confirmed Commodore driver who has loved his VT Berlina I have always been skeptical of Fords so it was with a big gulp that I took the plunge on the Territory.

First impression - fan bloody tastic. Build quality excellent (even my Subaru fanatic wife admits it is up there with her Imprezza). No squeaks, no rattles, no mysterious clunks, the tail gate closes perfectly, no mysterious electrical problems, no leaks (it is raining outside).

Handles, rides and drives better than my Berlina and is quieter.

Fuel consumption after 100ks of easy surburban driving 12.4 litres per 100 kilometers. Can this be true??? I don't do much better out of the Berlina.

To any skeptics out there - I was one but not now. While it is early days yet I am absolutely delighted with Ford. Good luck Holden!

Welcome & Congratulations.

Holden fans must have good taste

I've got the same Terri as you and my wife & I have no complaints with it, it is a bloody great car.

Ford are starting to build some decent vehicles. All they have to do now is redesign the Falcon shape, they fixed BA front & the rear is now acceptable, all they need is to get rid of that bulbous centre

Re: OK I'm convinced

congratulations on the new car mate! Awesome fuel economy - considering it's AWD Ghia at 2100kg with 4 auto and 4.11:1 diff - you must be babying it?

Certainly a strong element of babying it. I'd hoped for 15 after it was run in so I am very excited. Will update in a few days when reality will no doubt have set in!

biggrin Re: OK I'm convinced

I know how you feel Ouzo - picked up my Zest Ghia AWD today and loving it! We had a huge storm here today and the Ghia felt so sure footed in the wet. I've stepped up (quantum leaped!!!) from a 2000 Mazda MPV - a different universe. Woohoo!!!!!

Reality has set in but I'm still very happy - 15.2 litres per 100k after 300 kilometers. Definitely better than what I hoped for when new. The official 13.5 doesn't look all that unrealistic when it is run in.
Mostly surburban driving with a very steep long hill every day where you can watch the average fuel usage soar as you go up it I'm driving normally and used to get 12.5 -13 out of my Berlina for the same sort of driving.
I'd consider myself an average driver so what this points to is that no prospective buyer needs to be scared off by the horror stories of the Terri's fuel economy.
And the car - my love affair grows every day! I procrastinated for a long time over whether to buy the Terri and looked seriously at Kluger, Prado and Outback. Its nice to know that I made the right decision!
I think the sales figures are going to keep on growing (if Ford can build enough)
Only dislike - the digital clock at night that others have commented on. Minor annoyance only.

Re: OK I'm convinced

Good to hear yet another one going well. A lot of people read this forum to inform their buying decision as to whether the car is going well or whether there are common problems. I think any mass produced product always throws up isolated examples with glitches (Even Japanese and German ones). I would say almost all Terris are going fine from the feedback so far so I hope people are encouraged by your report Ouzo. I think the fuel consumption thing is not what everyone feared and the dire predictions from some magazine tests of 20 l/100 are not being realised. I never get worse than 15 in the most extreme peak hour driving and nearer to 13 is more the norm around town and down to 11 in the country.

I also love the Terri.

I baby it, so does my wife, to try and get the best fuel economy possible (mainly to see what it can do) and at an average of 15.3L/100km it is starting to turn into a horror story.

Our driving is urban with some highway driving, all on flat roads with 2300km on the odometer, it seems to have got worse after about 1700km.

I know it is still early days and that the engine is still tight and a oil change will probably help (going to a full synthetic 0W20 or 5W30), but having petrol prices floating at $1.00 - $1.15 with rumours of it touching $1.60 next year scares me, especially with only a 75L capacity.
