Question Rear Door Problems

Hi,

We just had our new Terry Ghia delivered on the weekend. I am impressed! I had high hopes, and generally it has lived up to (or exceeded) them so far. (It's only been 2 days though!). More on that another time...

My BIG problem with our Terry is that the rear door has to be slammed with a lot of force to make the lock catch. The dealer said that they should be able to 'adjust' this at the 3000km service. Any one have a similar experience? Was it able to be 'adjusted' successfully?

Do you know what the actual problem is. It's hard to tell whether it's a panel alignment problem, or a problem with the locking mechanism.

Thanks!

Re: Rear Door Problems

Its probably the catch on the door jam, which can be easily adjusted. But this should have been picked up by the dealer on delivery, you have to wonder what that dealer delivery and statutory charges are for?

Re: Rear Door Problems

I assume you mean the tailgate @ madwyer?

If so (and not the rear doors) --- I had the same problem. It seems to be the locking mechanism rather than an alignment problem.

Until you can get the latch replaced under warranty you can easily get the tailgate shut by doing the following.

1. Open the glass opening at the same time as the main tailgate is opened.

2. Shut the tailgate first. It should click into the lock no problem. Then shut the glass door. Jobs done.

Not satisfactory I know, but at least it solves your initial frustration.

Hopefully it works for you. It did mine.

Re: Rear Door Problems

I started a thread on this very subject a while ago...seems to be a common problem. Whilst I haven't asked the dealer to look at this yet....a reply to my original thread suggests that the problem is partly due to cabin air pressure...as suggested here also. If a door is open when the tailgate is shut, the tailgate locks into place far easier than if the cabin is sealed.

Re: Rear Door Problems

yep ... that makes a lot of sense @ burnsi

I found the dust sealing excellent on my trip in a lot of fine dust and sand so the pressure in the car is obviously high and is well sealed.

maybe just a little too good .... which causes the tailgate shutting problems.
