Re: Steering wheel shudder!!!

After a few days driving there is no doubt they have definitely improved it. Occasionally still a hint of it but if I wasn't focussed I would never notice. The work description says "upgraded PCM to latest specs" whatever that means.

Re: Steering wheel shudder!!!

Yes had my Territory in for the installation of the free accessories, and mentioned the shudder, and couldn't find anything wrong. It feels like a wheel balance problem. Sometimes noticable, other times not at all. I believe it may simply be the dust build up in the rims, causing a slight balance issue at high speeds. As we do a lot of dirt road driving, I guess it is possible. Another farmer with a Comodoore wagon had this problem and still has it. They have to wash or blow out their rims often.

I did notice a few things in the installation of the accessories though. While it was in for the day a manual trunk release cable was installed on the back tailgate, and again like the previous post, our computer was also upgraded.

Apart from the minor shudder on the steering wheel, only occasionally, all is going extremely well. Now 6500km's on the clock since November 1st.

Re: Steering wheel shudder!!!

I think you guys are talking about the same thing we had when we reviewed the Territory.

It's the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), for me it happened often when going round the mountains and pushing it a bit and also happened when the car is tilted when I was turning a corner at normal pace.

It feels like a shudder in the steering and you can feel the brake pedal pulsing if you are on the brakes.

If you look through the manual, you will find under the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) section, what actually happens when the system is in effect.

Cheers
Paul

Have a 2wd and I believe no DSC. I think that my slight steering wheel vibration is caused by dust, as it is noticable after washing (where the mud settles on one side of the inside rim) or after a bit of dirt driving. If I wash the car in town and drive on bitumen roads, no noticable problems. It only seems to be after I wash it at home, and the mud settles overnight in the rims. Maybe I'm wrong, but Ford couldn't find anything wrong either. Another Ghia in town has a similar problem (also a dirt driver) and has is also 2wd.

Does the shudder happen at low speeds?

Cheers

Re: Steering wheel shudder!!!

Can be at speeds from 30kph and up. The vibration increases as the vehicle gets faster. The vibration seems to be only with the steering wheel not the brake pedal.
