Thumbs up Terri Loves A Drink!!!

Towing a 1900kg caravan, Caravan World (march issue) got 22.5L/100km or 12.5mpg.
"With the cruise control set on 90km/hr the big Ford managed 18.5L/100km or 15.5mpg.Remember this is a four-litre engine pulling a combined weight of nearly 4 tonnes"
"Once we dropped the van back , it was a different story. At 100km/hr consumption was 12.4L/km or 23mpg"
' When it comes to caravanners the Territory seems to hit the right note. It is not too big or too small, powerful enough for any towing load without being excessively thirsty, comfortable and spacious and looks great. You cann't expect much more than that."
Territory again gets more praise.

Re: Terri Loves A Drink!!!

That's quite normal for any vehicle that is towing such a heavy weight behind it to get fuel economy like that.... actually, that's pretty good economy for 2 tonne on the back! Even diesels would increase significantly with that much weight

Re: Terri Loves A Drink!!!

There's no doubt that there is enough grunt to tow most loads with a Terri...but i can see a couple down points. One I saw on the weekend with a horse float on the back was a bit low in the ass...although some adjustable shocks would fix that. Also, there's just no competing with the economy of those diesels (turbo or non) with a load on the back. My girlfriends family has a turbo diesel Navara and its economy, especially under load is exceptional.

When we ordered our Territory with the 2300kg tow pack, I was told that if I was towing anything heavier than what could normally be towed with a 1600kg tow pack, then I should fit the Load Levelling Kit.
Maybe the arse-down look of the Territory with horse float could be fixed with this???

Re: Terri Loves A Drink!!!

That's interesting. My uncle had an 84 Jeep Cherokee with the 360 V8 and it would also get 12.5mpg on the highway (300km from 68L) towing their large caravan, I'm not sure on the weight but it was over 25' long. Mind you when they took the van off it only increased to 400km range (17L/100km or 16.6mpg).

and sorry to pick on both your links but the greenvehicleguide helps you choose a green vehicle, not a fuel efficient one. It shows the Merc ML's as being greener than a Terri despite a lower greenhouse score and worse economy - only the exhaust emissions seem to matter.

:-)

I think the reality is that if you're regularly towing or driving long distances then a Di Diesel is the way to go.

Re: Terri Loves A Drink!!!

When towing you should always use a Hayman Reese Hitch with load levellers. Fords 2300kg is just as good, providing you use load levellers. Different rear shocks won't help.

Yes, I agree with you that site does look dodgy.

I saw mention of the Direct Injection engine & thought it was a diesel engine, but it turns out to be a DI petrol engine. Some info http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/i...GDI/page1.html

the site http://www.greenvehicleguide.gov.au/...eHTMLPage.aspx does show fuel consumption figures, in the Sorted by choose Fuel Consumption

Here's a hand grenade http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2297/article.html
and after that rave on fuel consumption he writes about his speeding experience http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2416/article.html

Not really a hand grenade. I would really prefer that my Terri used a bit less fuel in city driving but at 2 tonnes that's impossible. What seems to be missing from most arguments is that the public are now expecting all cars to seat 5+, have 5 star crash rating, have fantastic suspension, and go well. That's meant that cars are getting heavier. Inevitably the cars that meet our criteria are using more fuel. The cars that use less fuel are tiny 4cyl buzz boxes.

There are Territory competitors that use less fuel but there's ALWAYS a compromise that I'm unwilling to make. I simply don't believe that hauling a car full of camping gear and family in a 4cyl 1.8 tonne vehicle is any fun. The only compromise that I'll make at some point (if it happens) is to look at a DiTD Terri, or maybe Ford might make a hybrid down the track (just like in the US).
