A word of caution - you need the set of four special captive nuts that fit into the channel of the carry bars to bolt the bike carrier to the carry bars.

These special nuts are included with the purchase of the carry bars, but are in a seperate box to the carry bar box, just make sure you get them when you get the carry bars!!
Burnsi,

I picked up my carry bars and bike carrier yesterday. However, I didn't get the instructions for removing the owl's wing on the bars. I have got the four separate captive nuts. I assume I have to remove one end of the bar then slide out the owls wing and cut it down to fit the captive nut in place so that the bike carrier can be screwed onto the carry bar?

Thx

Yes, slide one end of the bar out, then prise up the owl's wing and remove - it's a press/clip fit, not a slide out job.

The metal part of the sliding nut needs to be separated from the plastic, then the metal part gets inserted sideways into the "T" channel of the carry bar, then it gets pushed down and rotated to lock in under the "T" section of the channel.

Then the plastic part clips back over the metal nut - and sits on top of the carry bar.

The instructions do not actually say to refit the owl's wing once the bike carrier is fitted, but like you say, there would be nothing to stop you cutting and refiting it either side of the bike rack mounting legs - although if you cut the wing, then decide to shift the bike rack across the bar for some reason, the wing is going to be the wrong size.

The instructions do say however, that the metal part of the nut can be left in-situ, and the plastic part removed - then the owl's wing can be refitted. This is obviously if you remove the bike rack for any reason.

Remember: when refitting the owl's wing, the pointy edges face forward.

In the event you have problems, I have the following:

- Territory Carry Bar fitting instructions
- Cycle Holder fitting instructions
- Territory Sliding Nut for Carry-bar Fitting instructions

If you need to, PM me your e-mail address and which instructions you need, and I will scan them and e-mail them to you - hope you've got broadband though!
