I posted some of the info below in another thread, but thought it applied not just to that thread, hence it's here too...
I recently ordered a Territory which is yet to deliver (mid July), and with it quite a few accessories, some of which I took delivery of late last week. Having now unpacked them all, and "played" with them, here's my thoughts, just in case anyone is contemplating any of them -
Carry Bars - They're made of anodised (black) aluminium and high-durability plastic/nylon, and all the locking/fixing mechanisms are stainless steel. The bars have a few unique features built-in, like:
An "owl's wing - their term not mine" which is a jaggered bit of plastic moulding on the leading surface of the bar that dramatically reduces wind noise so they say; A positive locking pin that fits into the tracks on the Territory's roof, and enables the bars to be slid fore and aft; A lock to prevent them from getting flogged, and; A centre channel (under the owl's wing) that takes special captive nuts (4 supplied, and extras can be purchased in packs of 1 or 4) so that accessories like the bike/Kayak/ski racks (or anything else for that matter) can be bolted in-place!
They are also WIDTH adjustable - just reach under the bar, depress a spring-loaded tab, and each side of the bar can be extended in 3 increments, out to a max of about 200mm each side, so that something larger could be carried. The load-bearing surface (before they slope downwards) of the bars in their retracted state is about 900mm, with both sides fully extended, that measurement is almost 1300mm - perfect for carrying 1200mm wide gyprock or MDF boards!! The bar extensions slide out from the centre of the main bar aluminium extrusion, and are very sturdy!
Bike Carrier - lost in transit at the moment - hope they're made by the same manufacturer as the Carry Bars!!;
Alloy scuff plates - nice two-tone alloy with adhesive bits on the back to fit them with - purely cosmetic;
Carpet Mats - 3 piece (2 front, 1 long rear) quality darkish grey thick carpet with orange Territory logo, comes with captivity fixings;
Cargo liner - HEAVY DUTY (no kidding here) thick black rubber with orange logo - this is a heavy piece of gear;
Mud spats F & R - heavy rubbery plastic, with all the screws/instructions etc to fit them with;
Dash mat - with all the right moulded bits and cut-outs for airbags and dash contours etc;
Rear window & cargo area shades - these are great, their frames have been made out of spring steel, so that they "coil-up" when you want to pack them away, but spring back nice and taut to lie against the inside of the window! They also provide proper storage bags for them to go in!
I have also noticed on the Ford website that a couple of additional accessories have been added, like a cooler bag that fits in the console!
I have also ordered the colour-keyed body kit and spoiler - has anyone else had these fitted?? If so, let me know what you think.
In general, I have been most impressed with the range of accessories offered, and now having had many delivered, the quality of them. Also the prices are not too bad, considering their purpose-built nature. I actually thought the carry bars, bike rack and body kit were a bit pricey, but now that I have seen the quality of the carry bars (and the fact that I got them at trade helps), the price is justified IMO, and I will wait and see on the two other things before I pass judgement.
BTW - the small fridge ($185) on the Ford/Territory website is easily bought for $150 at most camping/outdoor places - identical model too!
Burnsi! Good going there. Thanks for the advice; it's good to know the accessories are as good as the car they're going on!
Except for the Bike Carrier, You have ordered most of the accessories that I want on my Territory. I'll also get a tow kit and the Hill Descent Thingy as we have a very steep drive way.... No really, I'm hoping to spend a lot more time in the hills now that I'm back in Oztralia.
I'm still debating over waiting for the TS or just getting a Ghia as soon as I start the new job next week. Anyone out there who has sampled the Ghia and can compare against the TX or has an idea what the TS will have or not have?
Yep, if Ford had Lightning Strike when i bought my GTP last year (Blood Orange), I probably would've got that. But the Terry is the family (wife's) car, and she picked Zest! Which I saw on a Falcon the other night, and it looks good too!
Go the Ghia! Leather and more gadgets and stuff. Seriously though, I drove a Ghia and a TX, and would've still bought the TX if there was no Ghia! So TS will be great.
Bike Carrier - lost in transit at the moment - hope they're made by the same manufacturer as the Carry Bars!!;
Bike Carrier turned up today, it's on a par with the carry bars in terms of quality.
Nice aluminium carrier, with heavy duty black plastic trim and fixing points;
Heavy duty front fork clamp and lock, which when slipped through the front of the carrier, also covers the fixing bolts that hold the carrier to the carry bars - so when the clamp/lock is actually locked, the carrier cannot be unbolted from the carry bars. The clamp/lock has a wide range of adjustment, and a cantilever setup to clamp down on the forks - like a quick-release front wheel does;
The rear wheel of the bike is held in position by a nifty heavy duty plastic strap that has it's own ratchet tightening device - not velcro like some other bike carriers have!;
The cradle that holds the rear wheel is also large enough for a fat mountain bike tyre.
The kit comes with seperate fixing hardware for, Territorys, AU/BA range and Fiestas!
A word of caution - you need the set of four special captive nuts that fit into the channel of the carry bars to bolt the bike carrier to the carry bars.
These special nuts are included with the purchase of the carry bars, but are in a seperate box to the carry bar box, just make sure you get them when you get the carry bars!!
Now that I've got all my accessories, where's my damn Territory!!!!

CORRECTION - These captive nuts are NOT included with the carry bars. They come as a seperate item, and are around the $18 mark for the set of four. I am surprised they are not listed seperately on the accessory lists/website, as they cost extra, and are definitely needed to mount the bike/watercraft/other carrier/s, to the carry bars.
By the way, the carry bars fit really well on the Territory, and look great.
Remember with the fridge that for the extra $30 or so you are covered by your Ford Factory 3 year warranty, so i'd imagine if the $150 unit alone elsewhere might only come with the standard 1 year warranty (I may be wrong!!) then the $30 extra isn't a bad thing necessarily.

Mmmm, hadn't thought of it like that! Could be worth it.
hence why people are being silly when they think some of the factory accessories are overpriced. Yes they are often dearer but time after time, factory bodykits, factory options and everything are of a consistent high grade (for Ford to stamp its name on it) and are also 3 year warranty covered when purchased with the vehicle.

Certainly agree with Zetec's comments that the inbuilt design integrity of genuine equipment along with a full warranty is definitely not to be disregarded lightly in the pursuit of relatively small $ savings. I definitely agree in terms of wheels, bodykits and almost anything electronic (cruise, alarms etc).
Having said that, sometimes better items can be bought from reputable manufacturers. For instance, the 15 litre thermo cooler/warmer Ford offers for $180 looks amazingly similar :-) to the Waeco TB 15 model (see www.waeco.com.au) which can be bought for $149 direct from the manufacturer.
Indeed, when you look at the various models of this type of cooler/warmer on that site, it appears to me that the $329 model TC-32FL (32 litre model) might be the best performer for most people - particularly families.
The weird thing is this; buy the same cooler from Waeco or Ford --- Waeco give you a 1 year warranty, Ford would give you a 3 year warranty if you bought it at delivery (only 12 month if after delivery).
and hence my suggestion and careful inclusion of "if purchased at delivery" simply because by law we are required to on a new car contract. That's wht from new, it is worth the extra $30 or so IMHO, but obviously if you purchase later, if the need arises, best of saving yourself that $30 by buying direct from manufacturer. Othrwise do some bargaining with the spare parts department and tell them, see what they say. If you can get them down to maybe $160 or 165 then you've got a discount and are still suporting Ford!!!
