Sounds exactly the same as what i have heard, maybe Territory should have been engineered for LHD and used in the US rather than having 2 different cars to do much the same job. the 2WD Freestyle is also FWD.

Re: Territory First Drive and Pics on Carpoint

Agree with points raised here, and I have a couple of comments to throw in:
- perhaps the rwd/V8 combo wasn't a high priority, wasn't projected to sell many
- lhd compatibility would have meant the program would take even longer than it has, so we'd probably be looking at June 2005 intro...

Hopefully the V8 will be in series 2 model, also 6sp auto. LHD I can't see happening before a new generation, perhaps the Territory and Freestyle may be amalgamated at that stage.

Does anyone know what platform/hardware the Freestyle is based on? (ie as Territory is based on Falcon)

All I know is that the Freestyle is a larger vehicle than the Territory. Same basic design principle was used though..

Re: Territory First Drive and Pics on Carpoint

Good point FM, dare say the USA will always demand a vehicle 1/2 a size larger than in Aust. so may be a bit hard to combine the two - hang on, what if there were 2 wheelbase options, that'd cover it? Same basic design, US version 100 or 150mm or whatever longer, half in rear doors, half in rear side window (rear overhang)

I think the Freestyle uses the Taurus engine and transmission, a 3.0 V6.

Near enough though that's why it makes such great economic sense and why it isn't LHD compatible. Plus there's no way that the US would just want Territory as their whole spare parts division than has to stock up on Aussie parts - it's just not going to happen.

As for platforms; Territory is to Falcon as Freestyle is to 500 (a new largish sedan being released around the same time). Do a search if your really interested.

What about the Turbo as an option, I would go for that, A nice black Territory with 19" rims and a turbo, thats what I would order.

Re: Territory First Drive and Pics on Carpoint

I read that the Freestyle is based on the Volvo S80 platform (also V70 & XC90).
