Are you taking your fuel consumption readings from the computer...or are you calculating them?

I tested the accuracy of my Fuel Comp, and it actually read about 0.2l/100 worse than it actually was getting - which is pretty close I guess. Maybe yours is not as accurate???

Although I have to agree with Organza, don't be too worried about consumption while these engines bed-in, they taper off significantly in terms of consumption once you've got a few thou on the clock.

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

Well I've now got 1500 k's on the clock and the best fuel economy I can get in the city is about 16.5 l/100km (when I drive like an absolute sook and get passed by pedestrians taking off at the lights). Realistic average is about 19 l/100 in city (still mainly peak hour)...

I'll have to head out on the highway I think and see if I can get anywhere near the low teens people are quoting...

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

We started with an average of 18 l/100klm around town and 15.5 l/klm on the highway.
Now were getting about 15.5 l/klm around town and 13 l/klm on the highway.
We have done 7700klm's. About 5000 on highway the rest around town or off road.

Johnny dep, give it at least 10,000 kms before putting the super slippery stuff in as 3,000kms is way 2 soon

Thanks for that.

I was going to change the oil this weekend, but the Oil Analysis Kit did not arrive, so the Terri has to wait a bit longer.
Before the old stuff comes out I will be taking a sample and getting it analysed. I'll be doing that every few oil changes, just for inerest sake.

Also changed my mind on whic oil to put in, it will be a 5W30 POA Synthetic. Later I will probably use the 0W20 Ester Synthetic.

Here are some economy figures from 4WD owners; http://www.exploroz.com/TrekNotes/TrekFuel_All.asp

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

I would tend to agree with Burnsi.

When I received my T from a recent service the fuel consumption was excessive........32L/100. But that was due to service being conducted whilist sitting in the bay......me wonders what else they were doing....... After a few days it dropped to 18.4L/100, but I was concerned as it use to average @ 16.8-17.1L/100.

After speaking to the service guys, they suggested resetting the trip comp which after a few days has brought me back to previous figures. But one thing he mentioned was not to rely on th trip figures as they are no way accurate.

Best method is calc your distance travelled between fills and that will tell you
the accurate consumption rate.

Oh yeh.....just enjoy the Terri, nice car - the wife is already nagging me about trading in her VX Commy S.

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

Just back from 900 km trip TX RWD fully loaded I'd estimate about 280 kg's weight carried and with a roof pod averaged 12.5 l/100km which has blown me away.

2 things that would have effected the consumption I increased pressure in the front tyres to 34 psi and rear to 37 psi which gave a slightly firmer ride but fine on the bitumen.

The other factor was a very strong wind behind us for the final 400 km. Probably about 60 % at 100km/h and 30% at 110km/h the other 10 % short trip stuff all up.

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

Some posters to this forum have referred to using premium fuel in their Territorys. I've usually shied away from this because of the price - you need to pay even more for petrol like a hole in the head. However I picked up a BP brochure the other day on their BP Ultimate (98 octane) and read the claims that it contains more energy per litre etc and therefore you fill up less and drive further. Like anybody I'm sceptical about these claims but does anyone know enough about this to tell whether these fuels are actually better, give you more fuel economy (that presumably outweighs the price disadvantage) etc? And are they suitable for the Territory donk? Would be interested to know more.

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

Re Ultimate, there's another thread that covered this Premium Fuel?.

If the Ford guys have not set up the ECU to recognise PULP then it won't make any difference apart from the supposed better detergents and more predictable fuel quality. Since it's the same engine as in the BA then it should behave the same. Maybe someone can pass on their BA experiences as a guide for us.

Re: Territory Fuel Economy

I've now racked up 1710 kms - mostly around town (Canberra) and the computer is showing a steady 15.0l/100km. I have to acknowledge though that Canberra peak hour is not quite Sydney's.

My wife was saying tonight that the kids outside our son's primary school the other day were stoked when she pulled up in the Ghia - they knew exactly which model it was!
