Re: Territory impressions in the outback

Thanks Organza,

I'm planning a run from Canberra to Darwin and down the centre and while the Terri was always an option I was wondering how they'd travel out that way assuming you didn't want to really get into the rough off track stuff where a 'Cruiser would be the go. Seems you got into most of the areas they reckon a Terri can't play well and I'm looking at going.

Did you get much of a chance to play in some outback mud or softer sandy stuff to really test her out or was it mostly the dryer, semi-maintained roads?

Re: Territory impressions in the outback

That was a really interesting read Organza. Sounds like a fabulous trip as well!

You say the Territory's the best SUV/4WD you've ever had; I'm just wondering what you've owned and driven previously??

Worth the wait - they are excellent. You certainly covered some serious distance.
I take it that the tiny white line on the first Ayers rock shot is not lightning even though it looks like it is raining on the left side of the shot...?

Sand yes .... mud, no.

Was great getting through to places like Chambers Pillar where there is a bit of sand dune to conquer. No issues whatsoever.

I didn't get to play in any mud anywhere, but I'm not sure that the T would get very far in any sort of serious mud with the standard tyres. They are just not designed for that .... the tread pattern is too closed for mud. Same would stand though for all the other tyres standard on similar SUV's ...

Umm ... no .... something the photo developer thought he'd add to the shot as a 'free extra' I think.

I've had a Maverick (way back when), a Series 80 Cruiser for a while, a Courier turbo diesel, a Hilux SR5 and have done trips in a 98 Explorer, the old model Prado and even did some sand duning in a Jeep Cherokee!!

I guess its the best SUV I've had because I appreciate the passenger like qualities of the car for 95% of my driving and it has more than enough off road capability for the 5% I spend on trips and holidays.

It doesn't take long for a Cruisers maintenance costs and very tiring driving experience to help you get over owning/driving a "real 4WD". It's way too much of a truck .... and the current Series 100 isn't any better ....
