Have you guys read that the Territory will have 17inch steelies. I guess on base models. But i wonder if they'll fit onto the Falcons?? Might look good on some cars. What do you think?
According to a guy who should know within Ford the Territory has the same bolt pattern and offset as AU/BA. That should also mean AU/BA 18" wheels should bolt right up to the Territory.
I'm already thinking should I go the base model and put some slightly more aggressive and a smidge larger rubber on the steely's for the camping trips and add some 18" BA alloys and street rubber for the rest of the time.
For those of you that don't think this will sell get yourself to the Motor show and observe the reaction - it's going to sell it's legs off!
Where does it fit and why do Ford Aus want it.
It brings back buyers lost to 4x4's that like the space & style but never use the full capabilties of their cars while at the same time adding volume for the local production lines and shares in the Falcon parts bin and helps maintain it's viability.
The Escape & Explorer may lose out though - who cares (not me).
Aussie dollars stay at home with Territory.
Well I went to the MMS yesterday and had a good perve at the Territory. There were many, many people going in and out of them - all reactions seemed pretty good.
To my surprise, I found a lot of younger males enquiring about the car/SUV whatever you want to call it. When I mean younger males, I'm talking about 23-30 age group.
I am now in love with it too seeing it in the flesh. It looks to me that Ford Oz has done a brilliant job. The size isn't too big, but it's not compact inside either. I've decided that I would happily purchase a sport version - FPV turbo or something. It would be the perfect all-rounder car IMO.

Wonder how possible it is to drop a V8 into the RWD version? Bonnet changes, maybe suspension too. If it can be done, it will be though. Would be interesting.

So here it is. Geoff Polites definently got out at the right time. Just before Territory bankrupts ford australia! Hardcore bushbashers won't buy it, Soccer mums won't buy it (not big or intimidating enough), all us Ford enthusiasts here are NOT 4WD fans, suburban wankers that rabbit on about japanese build quality and drive RAV4's and CRV's won't buy it. Who will buy it?? Obviously someone will but I can't see it being in anywhere near the numbers that ford are COUNTING on.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but I think alot of you have just tricked yourselves into thinking you like it just because it's a new local ford, and normally you wouldn't even blink twice at a stupid looking plastic 4wd that blocks your vision at every intersection and backs over someones kid coming out of its driveway every other morning! Ok i'm being a bit over-dramatic but seriously, the phrases 'Ford harcore 4WDer' 'Ford driving soccer mum' 'Ford suburban 4WD wanker' just don't exist! IMO, most of those type of people drive what they drive because they DON'T want to be seen in a ford. I just can't see this working!

Not here to flame you however remember in the past how many XE - XF, EA - EL wagons were sold. Where I live everyone drives a high body AWD and its only mum's and kids most the time that used to buy the traditional station wagon until the soft-roaders and cross-overs took over. We own a BA Futura wagon and will be trading to a Territory. I can't see why a Mitsubishi or Nissan badge will be blindingly more attractive to potential Territory buyers as long as they are not seriously bush bashing or towing twin horse floats every day. As long as Ford marketing can convince them to go for a decent test drive then its driving dynamics alone will change many people's opinions of the Territory. Its a very well thought out car and if quality can be kept high it deserves to succeed. Don't forget most on this forum are not the target market and the vast majority of buyers don't even know of FF. Until now no local company has built a 7 seater high body AWD/RWD so its untested waters anyway.
Is anyone else noticing very strong styling links with Toyota Kluger / Subaru Forester?
I reckon its a bit of an interesting gamble Ford have taken, Territory is an awkward vehicle to class because as has been said, its not 4WD-ey enough to be pulling a Caravan around Australia (I dont think so anyway), and its not sorta 'common' enough to be like the XR6T's which are now everywhere.
Still, i'm happy to be proven wrong about all that!
Just one thing - that Territory logo looks very sterile.
