Once you see it in the metal, you understand it. Never been a four wheel drive person, but Id have one in a second. Im absolutely spewing they didnt engineer it for V8. I only hope they transfer it to RTV and then a raised Falcon.( with the falcon they could just use lower springs and a high bodykit lol.)

So here it is. Geoff Polites definently got out at the right time. Just before Territory bankrupts ford australia! Hardcore bushbashers won't buy it, Soccer mums won't buy it (not big or intimidating enough), all us Ford enthusiasts here are NOT 4WD fans, suburban wankers that rabbit on about japanese build quality and drive RAV4's and CRV's won't buy it. Who will buy it?? Obviously someone will but I can't see it being in anywhere near the numbers that ford are COUNTING on.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but I think alot of you have just tricked yourselves into thinking you like it just because it's a new local ford, and normally you wouldn't even blink twice at a stupid looking plastic 4wd that blocks your vision at every intersection and backs over someones kid coming out of its driveway every other morning! Ok i'm being a bit over-dramatic but seriously, the phrases 'Ford harcore 4WDer' 'Ford driving soccer mum' 'Ford suburban 4WD wanker' just don't exist! IMO, most of those type of people drive what they drive because they DON'T want to be seen in a ford. I just can't see this working!
You obviously have not been following the growth of the AWD market in recent years. It has grown dramatically and Ford are responding to the demand in the market place by providing a product and I am sure Geoff and the team would have conducted the appropriate market research before spending the money necessary to launch this product and gain a segment of the market.

Oh ok. Of course we all know how great Ford Australia's market research has been in recent years!! AU forte anyone??? I'm well aware that 4WD's are an expanding market, I just think it's an expanding market of people that don't want to drive a local Ford/Holden type product. The people that truly need a 4WD aren't really expanding, it's the pretend/wanker/yuppie image that's expanding and they aren't gonna want a ford. Just my opinion of course!!!

Hey I like how you related 4WD's to shit. Spot on! :)
I guess it could be just my own contempt for the things that is fueling my scepticism. An 1800kg car with 182kW won't be much of a performer either, as even a BA XT is a bit of a slug really. They very well may sell alot of them, but as another poster pointed out they've spent as much on developing this thing as they spent on the latest Falcon. Now I can't see them selling even half as many Territorys as they do falcons, and if that's the case it will struggle to be profitable. The japanese players have a world market to sell to, we don't. And a lot of the ones they do sell will be to the big fleet buyers that were previously contracted to buy falcon wagons anyway. I guess it's time to shut my mouth and just see what happens hey!
Well, as a Holden person, who know drives a XR6T, we are lookign at changing our HOLDEN Jackaroo to the new Territory. I have made enquiries through our dealer (Courtney and Patterson) and have been informed they will be getting two demos in April. Well, I'm happy to be waiting in line to take one for a drive.
If the Territory is built anywhere near as comfortable and enjoyable as the T is then its a sure winner.
i believe subaru and toyota are worried by the new found holden and ford domanance they will experance when both models arrive, sure the adventura is out and selling like hotcakes (belive it or not) i am a new car sales consultant for a group in brisbane and motorama holden is the dealership next door they (coustomers)cant get enough because finaly there is a localy made WELL made AWD alternative there IS a market if u dont believe me u sould see the list of preorders on terrotories its HUGE.

Seriously Pigdog, have you driven an 182KW XT? Because it will see off your Fairmont.
From the timeslips page (sorry Night_Lurker:)

Also from the back of Motor Magazine. BA XR6 0-100 in 8.11 and 400metres in 15.86.
I haven't driven an XT, but a mate of my sisters brought one over one day and we did line up both cars about 3 or 4 times (on a private road of course). Easy fairmont victory every time! A manual BA XR6 might be more interesting tho.
