Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

SUV = Sports Utility Vehicle = Light offroad only

4WD = 4 Wheel Drive = Go Bush

I suppose the next comparison will be the Ford Territory vs the Commodore Ute.

Both have carrying capacity but different intended purpose.

I can see the Territories limitations being listed as : Not being able to get forklift close enough to payload area because of tailgate".

I suspect serious SUV buyers will see through these comparo's.

My two cents

Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

It just goes to show the Territory is not the answer to all questions. It's more a case of general perception rather than what Ford has actually said about the vehicle.

The ad does show the Territory driving through forests and over sand dunes - ie off road

It's also a shame that most of the criticism could be answered with a little more ground clearance, it only has to be available as an option for those who want it.

Air suspension on the Ghia AWD would be nice, notto mention a 6 auto

Nice yes, but offering what they have for the price is even nicer IMHO.

Something it should be perfectly capable of doing, sand doesn't require huge ground clearance and it is shown on forestry tracks.

I consider myself to be well researched and I still maintain this is the ideal car for me. I have a young family, we like to go on camping/touring holidays. I realise that 95%+ of my usage will be on bitumen roads and I like my driving. Anywhere the Territory won't go is likely private property or chained up by the greeny's in anycase.

I should have mine by mid September and I've been waiting over a decade for something that's worth getting out of the ED for. (OK, XR6T was damn tempting but decided to wait for Terry). Hopefully they'll be a Turbo Terry when the lease on this ones up.

Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

Another thing some people overlook is that the AWD (not 4WD) is sometimes chosen over RWD for the benefits that 4 driven wheels provide - i.e more stability in adverse (wet, slippery) conditions. Another safety aspect of the AWD is that it gets the full Dynamic Stability Control.

i understood it perfectly...i'm don't think i'm sensitive to it..just reading between the lines..

Why bother posting something that almost everybody here knew?? That drive article was spoken about in depth, and we all could see that DRIVE pounded the thing on 4wd country....

Ask the people buying the Terry and see if it's meeting their expectations and taking them where they want to go.. don't worry about DRIVE too much, it's obvious they want to tarnish its reputation by saying it should be a 4WD beater when it's not.

Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

I Just got out of my turbo diesel landcruiser after 13 yrs , which i loved,we bought a terri ghia and yes so far it is more than fullfilling our expectations, we bought the awd with no intention of going of road we just like the thought of 4 wheels driving rather than 2, funny as soon as something has all wheel drive they consider it an 'offroader" can't say i can ever recall seeing a wrx on the beach at fraser lolol

Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

Well done, what a stir! The territory is not as good off road as a patrol! I nother breaking news 'the sky is BLUE.' your post says it is fine for its intended purpose ENOUGH SAID! Why go on about its off raod acapabilities. It is praobably good on dirt and can go anywhere a honda crv (or for that matter mdx) can go. It might not be far behind an x5 (maybe better). Do you get on their case? "The honda crv is great for its intended purpose but at the drags last night not once did it pull a 12 second quarter. it was totally outclassed by other awd's such as porsche turbo, Lamborghina Gallardo and evo 8"

Ford didn't make out it was a Landrover defender. It can be driven through mud and sand. People have cross the big red in HX holdens. A porsche 911 did it a few years ago. Anyway, it is just advertising! Did u get upset when Holden's ad on the monaro (GAME OVER) showed it beating 911's and ferrari's? An ad gets u interested. then your brain takes over.

Re: Territory - surprise, surprise...

good on ya Evan, read the posts before you make another stupid comment. For the billionth time, that wasn't the point i was getting at... It was purely an observation of the people, including the media, who were expecting better capabilities off-road from it. And no, I didnt get upset about advertizing.... I quite like creative commercials and always defend them when the government makes claims about how realistic they should appear. Mind you, there are a number of retards who believe everything they see on TV - did you have to watch the weather channel to find out the sky was blue?
