But it better come out with all the bloody fruit that my AUII Fairmont Wagon has and more or this little black duck will vote with his cheque book and buy something else.
The Explorer is too big, the Escape is too small but the Territory looks just right.
They'd have to be bonkers not to engineer it for all the available engines they have. The other mob, will certainly have access to more than their V8 when HFV6 comes along and they will attemp to cover the bottom and the top end of the market.
I don't think you would spend A$500 Million and not try and sell to the broadest possible market you could, would you??
Originally posted by RAPTOR I am a Inline 6 enthusiast but considering this thing in AWD guise will likely be heavier again than a BA Falcon than I was thinking I'd have a good look at the V8 option and a test drive of both.
I don't think its going to be an absolute porker, especially when they've designed the supporting structure into the body parts, thus saving weight in comparison to typical vehicle architectures.
"Territory shares Falcon's underbody architecture, but the SOHC 5.4-litre V8 simply does not fit alongside the AWD transfer case. Clearly, a V8 will come but not initially"

RPO83: all i've got to say is that I would be devasted if Ford did NOT release a V8 (3 or 4 valve) V8 in the Territory.
I could understand it taking a while to shoehorn the engine in, but it MUST be an option. I know that there are 3 people in my office at work that would consider a V8 Territory over an X5 or Merc ML. But they want a V8.

BA XR6 - December 2002 ~ Soon to disappear if Ford CRC can't fix it....
45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...
I'm seriously considering a Territory in future years.. No V8 option initially is plain stupid. No question that the I6 & I6T would take up the bulk of engines used but you have to have options for people to even consider your vehicle.
This has dissapointed me. SOHC V8 was the preferred option, however if it's not available then I6T has to be the go. Shits me royale that. I hate being told what I can & can't buy. My money.. I should be able to buy what I want.
Well, I'll repeat myself from the Motor Magazine thread here, as I still feel the same way!
If there is no V8 option, Ford will lose customers FULL STOP. It will IMMEDIATELY diminish it's status against the Holden equivalents, even before it's hit the showrooms! Pure product planning genius, that.
The lack of a range of engine options, (and potentially the lack of a true luxury option/model), will also result in the Territory being lumped in with every other mid-roader in this segment, and unless it's incredibly cheap and well equipped, it won't have anything going for it against it's competition. I would prefer to see superiority through a segment-leading range of interior / exterior / engine options, rather than through a Hyundai Excel approach to sales. We want special vehicles, not appliances.
It still staggers me that the Territory could be designed and engineered, from square one, as a MAJOR NEW MODEL LINE, without support for a V8!!! It's positively breathtaking!!
So much for competing with, or aiming at the X5 ...

Clicky clicky here for previous ride! I still miss her!
I'm not a big fan of 4x4 I dont see the point of having one if its gonna spend 99% on the road and in the city!
The Territory show car was an awesome looking 4x4 that had something exciting about it, even if it was just spinning round n round. But this production version is just so tame and looks like any other mid size 4x4 IMO. A lot of people may have been interested only because they assumed it would come with a Turbo6 or V8 option. But now seeing that it wont, what makes it any different from all the other 4x4 in its class!?!? Look at the Escape...... ohhhh hang on i think I've only ever see 5 on the road since they were released! Get my point!
Its a bit like the BA wagon, NO V8, NO MANUAL!!
Wonder if Ford will sell as many as they think? Maybe they are thrying to keep it under 2000kg so they wont offer the V8. The base BA being a 1600kg car, imagine the Territory, 1800kg+???
