Wow. Saved me trying to point this out. My understanding, and certainly eluded to by our illustrious leader GP, is that territory will also be a RWD vehicle.

So, putting two and two together that means there is certainly the possibility of a V8. Only catch is you can't have V8 AND AWD together. Sort of detracts from the whole idea really (in my mind at least).

AP will say it again. Whatever I want, Ford never build. It's like they have a chip in my head or something. Territory will be exposed to the recreational and lifestyle markets and that includes boaters, horse owners etc who need towing ability. They may also want, like me, the ability to visit a beach occasionally.

The V8 must happen, probably more clear when you consider the 220 5.4 engine which is hardly a sporty V8 and probably suited to towing applications.

AP votes for AWD with V8. If Ford do what is being said (I6 only) I will personally stand outside Ford HQ and slap each person on their way out after work with a Sparkling Trout (trying to knock some sense into them). Having said that, it's not my money they're playing with is it?

And I would be guessing that market research would show those optioning the Territory with a V-8 would be the ones more likely to use its AWD capabilities.

will the territory be fulltime 4wd or will it have the 'controltrac' 4wd system that the explorer uses???

surely ford could tool the system for the territory?? $500 million on a new body, interior and front susp + dev/testing (not forgeting marketing) seems to be alot - I know developing a new car wouldn't be cheap, but alot of territorys 'bits' like interior could be falcon, irs system from falcon, motors + gearboxes from falcon, (possibly lighting from falcon)....

4wd, 6pot, ugly SUV things. Ok, that's not a very long list, but those are big similarities.

So is the Crown Vic, but doesn't mean it isn't any good. I'd say (and I'm not the only one) the styling is the best of all the SUV's we get here and it doesn't look any bigger than a Landcruiser. I dont' c how a Territory will tow a boat to the beach significantly better than an Explorer.

I know the SUV market is big but surely it doesn't justify spending as much as they did on the Barra developing ANOTHER one when they've already got proven products that will fill very similar roles.

This has dissapointed me. SOHC V8 was the preferred option, however if it's not available then I6T has to be the go. Shits me royale that. I hate being told what I can & can't buy. My money.. I should be able to buy what I want.

Me to i was hopeing they would come in a v8 it shits me to chucky
well looks like i will be buying a cross 8 then!

With that sort of thinking why didn't Ford just bring in the Taurus and save the money spent on Barra.

Both 4 door mid/large sedan, both have 6 & 8 cylinder engines, both family cars.

Oh they tried that and they didn't sell in Australia.
Just like the Explorer!

No, the Turdus is NOTHING like a Falcon. No RWD, little V6/V8, it's more a Camry competitor. What they SHOULD have done is bring the Crown Vic down, Aussie spec their suspension, etc and rebadged them as Falcons. The Explorer doesn't have the same advertising or reputation as say a Landcruiser. Noone knows what it is. Give it a bit of marketing, I can't c how it can't stand on even footing with a Lancruiser, Land Rover, Pajero or Pathfinder.

Ok: Crown Vic or EA, ur pick. The later Falcons r prolly better than the Crown Vic, maybe a Lincoln LS? The point is we need to establish a link to the US so we can share the r&d costs. What a waste to develop 2 rear drive platforms that fill such a similar market?

But the main issue here is what makes a Pajero so much better than an Explorer that we need to make a whole new car?

I'm not touching your CV Vs. EA comment...

The Crossover phenomenon seems to have passed you by...The Territory is a vehicle that will deliver:
  • Car-like styling,
  • Car-like dynamics,
  • Four-wheel-drive versatility,
  • People mover ability.
It is a mix of many different cars bundled into the one package and is NOT A PURPOSE BUILT MID-SIZE 4X4 like the Explorer.

Flexibility is what this car is all about, and there is clearly a market for this car...three years of market research strongly suggests this.
