I give up on you Cancerman.

The Taurus experiment, Explorer and Mustang are all examples that Australians do not appreciate US styling, dynamics or build quality. Our market is too small for them to really pay us any attention and we would just get what ever they wanted to give us.

The Territory and Falcon is actually an example of producing two different cars on the one platform. Thus growing volume and spreading developments costs across a wider base. I'd also reckon BA/Territory will be more than a match for their cousins from the US.

Do you ever spend any time on the BON forums. Plenty of US folks there reckon that Ford should dump the CV and import the Falcon as a modern replacement!

OK my 2cents worth.

Given that we now can not get a Ford Falcon Wagon with a V8. I would think that the Territory MUST have a V8 option. For those people who want to tow anything of size I would think the V8 is a must. Having said that the old AUII xr6 VCT towed a 1200kg van just fine (have not tried the Xr6T yet!. I would not have liked to tow anything any larger though. This whole thing smacks of "The last V8 falcon to run out of Ford Aus in the late '80s".
I will grant you that the volume of the V8 would be lower than that of the I6 but that is not the point. Ozie blokes want a V8 to drive and tow some times. We are nothing like any other market in the world.
Given the market Ford are aiming at for this vehicle (drives like a car, handles like a car, IS 4wd, has the space (bigger than a Falcon Wagon!)) I think people will go for it (me included maybee in a few years) but I want the choice of I6, I6T, V8 nothing less nothing more. Don't forget the luxo Fairmont version as well as the XT version..

Please don't forget the V8 loving market..

Ok this is slightly unrelated but has anyone seen the new Honda MDX and expecially the new add for the MDX? It possesses an uncanny resemblance to the territory, it's pretty crazy. Especially how the C pillar leans forward, just like in territory, rather than backwards as in traditional styling. Front end looks very diferent but side profiles and rear look almost identical. Take a look at it.

surely ford could tool the system for the territory?? $500 million on a new body, interior and front susp + dev/testing (not forgeting marketing) seems to be alot - I know developing a new car wouldn't be cheap, but alot of territorys 'bits' like interior could be falcon, irs system from falcon, motors + gearboxes from falcon, (possibly lighting from falcon)....
Anyone want to have a go at answering my question??????

will the territory be fulltime 4wd or will it have the 'controltrac' 4wd system that the explorer uses???

Yes... Yes it has.

Car-like styling - Looks like a 4x4 for poofs
Car-like dynamics - no comment, haven't driven 1
Four-wheel-drive versatility - like an Explorer
People mover ability - like an Explorer

Flexibility is what this car is all about, and there is clearly a market for this car...three years of market research strongly suggests this.
Ok... Maybe I'm wrong, the SUC, market has unfortunately grown big enough for yet another. Time will tell.

What about the XL(?) Falcon? I rest my case.

So do I, later model Falcons r so much more exciting than the CV. What was hoping for was if '88 CV = EA, maybe BA = 2002 CV! And the budget to develop it would be double. The CV competes with Camrys, Accords and Avalons over there. Even if they had the AU, they would have dominated the market!

And I give up too, we're hijacking the thread... :)

Uncy Geoff promised me I wouldn't like the answers to questions on the BA wagon (here I am getting a ute...). These were the V8 thingy and the cart spring thingy.

It was all about the money side of things which makes sense, only when you believe Territory will have IRS (it does), and a honking V8. In my mind the 220 V8 is also less than ideal in its current tune (needs to be a worthy competitor to the Gen3).

Oh, seeing as Ford have read my mind and are not building what I want here is my wish list:

Territory
V8 around 240kW++ (must match or exceed performance of the Holden Gen3 equivalent), ideally though have the 260Boss available
Sports pack similar to XR8
Avail in both MANUAL and auto (although this order would be auto for me given towing etc)
4WD would be a great plus, however if TC is latest technology this may be less important
2300kg towing capacity (minimum 2000)

I promised the handbrake we'd buy her a new car next year but it now looks like we're headed towards the Merc ML again...... gotta have that V8! No more Half-A-Dozens for AP.

I am hoping to be in a postion to be able to get a Territory. For me, I need all that the Territory has to offer including all the little bits we have been told about it.

I need the V8 as well for towing. I was glad this was bought up before as I didnt want to seem to be the only country hick on these forums. I wonder how many of you have pulled a horse float with a dirty big b-double comming up ur arse & dont have the power to compete (trust me it aint a pretty sight).

From what I can gather this vehicle is not for those like cancerman who obviously has no need or want for a 4wd. This vehcile is for the wider market like me who has kids, needs to tow, loves going to the outdoors & the bonus for me is that we have the awd ( I live in the outback & have dirt roads everwhere that you generally need a 4wd to navigate)

LOL AP .....your wish list is the same as mine

Ford .......Please,Please, Please ........Give us the V8........I realise that V8 wont be the biggest sellers in the range but you will have a market for them if they are an option.
