I have to ask how just putting a diesel would turn it into a serious off road machine? All it would do is provide people with a genuine option of maintaining performance while getting a much better fuel milage... even down to 10L/100km (Highway possibly less!)
a 6 Speed auto could be introduced at the same time, as the said engine is mated to it already in Europe..........

You will not make a serrious off road machine that has independant front and rear supension within the next 5 years, I wont say never as most SCORA race trucks are now independant front and rear but these are million dollar trucks with technology that will take years to come down in price to be mass produced

The terri has never been marketed as an off road machine why do you all keep bringing this up. Horses for courses, if you want an off road machine go buy a real one, if you want the best value and most practical family car on the market that can take you to some nice bush locations for a picnic or camping buy a terri

BTW to give you perspective this is what I call serrious off road, I am the navigator in this competion jeep

http://www.offroadimages.com.au/OE/E...ls04_0927.html

The terri will never be able to even be modified to do this type of driving unless you are prepared to spend two to three times the value of it in mods.

The terri will do the type of driving it was designed for with absolute ease and will go much further than most owners will ever take it, just dont loose perspective

Re: Territory - where to from here?

The one limitation that I have come across is ride height. I am not saying jack it up permanently and thus reduce the great road handling that it currently has but maybe adjustable ride height for those tracks that are bit nastier than usual.

Yes, adjustable ride height like the Range Rover would be perfect.

Maybe make it an option like Hill Descent Control, so as to keep the price down.

Re: Territory - where to from here?

I agree - some form of adjustable ride height, a 5 or 6 speed box, turbo option and a diesel option would pretty well make a great SUV into a near perfect one.

Oh and move the the digital clock but I think Territory's got that message.

Has anyone thought about reversing the polarising filter in the current clock to reverse the way it displays? I reckon this would certainly make it easier to look at during the night. A lot less glare surely.

And price like a Range Rover too?
Making things Optional doesnt make the development and investment any cheaper unfortunately.

The cheap option would be a little more ground clearance without sacrificing handling. Easier said than done I'm sure.

Subaru released a Electronic Height Control in the early 1990's on the Liberty AWD, and they were not charging Range Rover prices.

Most of the gear is already out there, just like HDC, so no developing is required, just testing & calibration.

Smile Re: Territory - where to from here?

I wasn't suggesting Ford should make a off road Territory, just that if they do ( I have heard it suggested before) they should make it diesel only which I think would suit it better than the petrol engine.
