Re: There's a hole in my Territory - anyone else ?

I understand how passionate everyone is in this forum. To cast aspersions on someone's misfortune with their recent car purchase is not only disrespectful but also unpressional. Where it boils down to no matter what brand of car you buy, albeit a 14K Hyundair or 260K Cayenne, you should expect the manufactures to get it right first time, everytime. In a perfect world, this may not be the case, but as a consumer, you are entitled to this fact and anyone else out there who believe sboucher is fabricating his problem to create friction amongst Ford owners should be ashamed of themselves. Dont be defensive folks, be objective!

sboucher, i would encourage you to keep coming to these forum. keep sharing your experience.

My observation , after my last three new cars were Subaru's, is that the build quality of Australian cars, and when I say this, I am not only talking about my Territory, but Australian Built cars in general, is not up to the standard of any of my previous Subaru's.
You mention the right to free speech and yet bemoan others like me doing just the same....I only mention the other brands to add some objectivity. Only one poster questioned your claim and you perfectly supported your situation and as the saying goes "a picture says a ..."

As I mentioned earlier I'm staggered such a major problem ever left the factory and then was never picked up by the dealer. You're lucky the dealer is not trying to suggest it "happened somewhere between you leaving their driveway and returning later to show them the damage".

No need to get your back up and has been mentioned before sometimes trouble makers spread negative stories to rubbish a model, which is NOT the case with you obvioulsy, I stress. Incidently, just to get your thoughts, based on your opinions of aussie car build quality what made you change to a Ford from 3 previous Subura's?
I hope your car is repaired to your satifsaction and the Territory proves trouble-free.

I just had a look at mine and it appears that "hole" is intentional and I would bet on all the teries. It seems to be some king of access hole. Mine is neatly pluged and painted and as such it's not a problem. I didn't even notice until this thread. You probably got one that was not plugged properly but as long as it's fixed I wouldn't worry about it. Have a look at some of the other cars at the dealers and you should see what I mean.

I had a look at mine earlier tonight and I have TWO of them, each about the size of a 5 cent piece.

One "hole" is plugged and has a very low profile, the other has a very definite raised edge around it. Fortunately both are well sealed with paint and show no sign of rust.

Looks something like 'punch out' holes for optional equipment....or maybe they couldn't decide where to mount the tailgate gas strut (they're above the strut mounting point)

Both "holes" on the right hand side, nothing similar on the left side.

Re: There's a hole in my Territory - anyone else ?

Regarding holes on others, when I took it back to the dealer, the first thing they did was rush inside and open all the other Territorys to look for the same. Not one had the hole, his next statement was, "I'm gob smacked". Now i see more people are finding this hole, and as they have stated, likewise mine is on the righthand side.

When i discovered it, it wasn't like a perfectly formed hole, it looked more like a bullit hole. All the steel was intact, but the area from the hole was folded out, somewhat like a gun had been fired through it from inside. As you can see in the picture, they have folded the steel back into the hole awaiting repair.

Why I changed from Subaru ? I loved my Subaru's (WRX - Liberty RX - Impreza RV), but with two young kids, the room just wasn't there. We looked at big four wheel drives, but they dont really give a pleasent every day ride. As soon as I saw the Territory I knew it was just what we needed. It had room, it had power and it felt like driving in a normal sedan only way higher. The price seemed very reasonable. We drove it, we loved it, we kept it. I note now that Subaru are entering the SUV market in the US and looking towards Australia in 2007. I wouldn't say $70K + is aiming their car at the average family. The Subaru will just be another status symbol vehicle like BMW X5 etc.

I give Ford their dues, they found a hole in the market, they filled it, and they deserve all the success they get from this feat. The rest of the market is now engaged in a masive case of catch-up.

Re: There's a hole in my Territory - anyone else ?

And yes, I am a bit sensative. Appologies to anyone I offended.

As a first time poster this reply

sboucher - given the history of some past posters to these forums I have to say I'm not 100% convinced of your post.
NO-ONE else has reported broken lid clips.
NO-ONE else has reported a warped glovebox (although there were 1 or 2 people with catch problems)
NO-ONE else has reported a faulty cable on the back seat
NO-ONE else has reported a rusty randomly drilled hole in their Terri

To me there's 2 ways to take this
a) You're leading us on. ie show us a photo
b) You've got a genuinely dodgy one-off car with a number of issues that should all be brought IMMEDIATELY to the attention of your dealer as soon as you spot them.

The skeptic alarm in me is ringing loud. Why is it that you have this hole in your Terri, which a dealer would normally fix ASAP, and yet you're posting to all the Ford forums and Wheels as well that you've got the dogiest car in the world? If your fault is real then I think you're overdoing it. Compared to your problems there are other cars out there (including Fords) with SUBSTANTIALLY more serious problems than yours.

I still think I smell a rat.

really got my back up !!

Re: There's a hole in my Territory - anyone else ?

Shape of a bullet hole! Fascinating. Maybe there was a shoot-out with some Toyota spies in the Broadmeadows factory and your car copped one of the bullets. It would be interesting for your dealer to trace back with Ford how such a bizarre hole could have come about and hopefully this will lead to Ford ensuring that it won't happen again.

Re: There's a hole in my Territory - anyone else ?

I meant to add - to help the discussion - our TX is a July 04 build and that area of metal is totally solid. However in the channel there are two circular imprints about the size of a 5 cent coin as though they are blanks for stamping out if needed. Otherwise metal is solid - no sign of holes having been there and certainly no rubber grommets or anything like that. If a few have them now it sounds like something that's developed more recently.
