Curls,

My 2 cents..

I have recently done a crap load of research into Car DVD options for my two little back set passengers. (5 & 2 yr old)

I ended up purchasing a Teac Portable DVD unit kit with two 6.2 inch screens.
It set me back $699. (not bad compared to the REX system).

Draw backs of the roof mount. Its permanent, some DO block the rear vision and the main reason is the kids (x2) have to tilt their head and look up to watch it (not good for little necks). Get them to look at your interior roof light and see for yourself.

The system I purchased can be left in the vehicle due to the DVD player fitting into the security draw under the drivers seat. The player can then be controlled with the remote control. IT even has a game pad with 25 in-built games. One kid can watch a movie the other play a game simutaneously.

There is bugger all info on this system on the Teac web site, so drop into a Harvey Norman or JB Hi Fi and do some comparisons for yourself.

Driving a NEW TS with two content, quiet and happy kids in the back is....well...bliss...

It should be a factory standard for any family.

Oh and you can run the audio through your PREMIUM SOUND system if you get the AUX audio jack installed.

took the t for a drive ,no it doesn't come into view our kids are 9, 11, 14, 16 ( yes we do have a tv at home lolol) so the angle of viewing wasn't a concern ,we paid the xtra$$ for the games adapter which turns out to be a 240 v inverter installed in the centre console they can plug a play station/ xbox in if they want it comes with the jack for the av leads the rex also comes with infared headphones so the kids can listen to the dvd and we can listen to something else or you can play the audio through the premium sound ( all Intergrated) it was more xpensive than aftermarket options but it fits good looks great and yes the peace and quiet we now get is B L I S S see ya

Curls This is my 2 bobs worth on a colour , I have Venom Gt its not bad on hiding the dirt , we chose white for the territory and to me always looks clean, we were going to go for Lightning strike but i'm not a big fan of metalics especially when it comes to touching them up.

Your 2 cents is my $1000, thanks for the great tip as I also have a 2 year old (I'm completely Shreked out and we've only had it for 2 weeks). I love the idea of a less pricey, portable unit as I was thinking of installing a roof mounted unit in our wagon however I will be trading it by mid 2005 and its a big expense only to pass on to someone else...off to see the range...

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the portable units as mentioned by CAAK as well as factory/aftermarket installs.. As to colour & washing, I ratherly shyly admit I'm an industrial chemist and manufacture cleaning products and I still take the car to hand car wash yards. My wife moans about doing the laundry to which I reply, get a cleaner, I make chemicals, I don't use them (exception is R&D). The saucepan flew past almost immediately after.

Re: Thoughts of a TX purchaser (almost)

I bought a portable dvd from aldi which they tell me are either made by Sanyo or LG. Only one screen but very small, 15cm screen, remote control slightly bigger than a portable cd player, can also be plugged into a TV to be used as a normal dvd player and straps to the head rest of the seat in front. Cost me $400.00 came with adapters and battery attachment, earphones, normal speakers. No games though, good value, works brilliantly, probably not as good as the TEAC with two screens though for value but I'd recommend it.
