In the middle on the side of the plastic surrounding the dash ICC on the drivers side, there is three vertical slots. Can anyone tell me what they are for? I thought they may be for a future mobile phone microphone. I figured thay cannot be for the temperature sensing as it is dual zone (which would mean one on either side)

I think the slots are for temp sensing - typically there is a little motor behind there that draws ambient air temp in and the climate control system works out how hard to run the system to get to the desired temp. The temp for passenger and driver is probably monitored by exhaust temp sensors on each side.

One test is to put a piece of paper over the slots - if it sticks to the slots then it's sensing the air temp.

I'll try this myself when I get home to my T !!

They are definately for air temp sensing. I have had mine out recently and there is a little fan inside. Incidentally, the mesh "filter" covering them was filthy. I removed and washed it and the A/C temp settings seem much more accurate now.
