New solution....turn CD/radio up to about level 6.
VERY interesting - so it's just a design fault. My VL (that I used to have) had ticking injectors but you could only hear them from outside. The under-bonnet noises didn't get into the car so easily.

So it looks like this is something we have to live with.

Yep... a minor irritation that takes the gloss off a brilliant product.

Re: Ticking Noise

Damn - For the first time, I heard a quite loud ticking noise when driving to work this morning and couldn't work it out. Had forgotten about this thread but it sounds like my Terri has caught the virus. Please doctor there must be a cure!

I have booked a drive with Dealer and Eon next week and hope to get this resolved.

Hi All,

This issue is still somewhat ongoing, but I convinced my Ford Dealer to change over the complete trans and it seems the ticking connected to the revs is now gone. :)

Strangely enought I thought it would resolve the second ticking sound when shifting from 3-4 or 4-3 under load. (Has anyone experience this?)

Now all thats left is a whine from the engine bay that sounds like a driveshaft / cv shaft bearing. (happens in N or D)

I hope my experience helps.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

Cheers

A.

Turned out to be a temporary illness and it it disappeared just as fast. Hope there are no recurrences because it was very bloody annoying.

I heard a similar noise, only once on a smooth road, but to me it sounded more like a hydraulic valve adjuster loosing presure.

The noise was not there long enough for me to pin-point exactly, but I would have theought if it was injector noise it would be multiplied by six.

Might change my engine oil & put some injector cleaner in the fuel tank.

Re: Ticking Noise

I had a ticking noise start after the 3000km service. Mentioned it to the Service Rep and he was able to fix it straight away

The problem was the Charcoal cannister, buried in the back LHS of the engine bay, vibrating against a loom. Easy fix with a cable tie to pull the loom out of the way!

Hope this helps.

Re: Ticking Noise

My brother brought a territory ghia a couple of months ago and he told me about the ticking noise when idiling and driving and that he used to turn the radio up to hide the noise.
He asked me to look at it and i found a pipe next to the engine that vibrates and gives the impression its valves or lifters.
All Barra engines tick if you lift the bonnet and listern ,but once you shut it the ticking stops.
Maybe you could suggest this to your dealer and check the pipes near the engine.
Hope it helps

Re: Ticking Noise

Hi
the exhaust heat sheild rattle at idle and on light acceleration, these are located under the vehicle, directly below the drivers legs.

I have also found that a ratlle noise can be heard on acceleration, this is the engine pinging due to our poor quality fuel.
hope this helps

does the whine change with engine revs ?
sounds like a tensioner pulley ?
