I'm pretty sure I saw a power/torque curve somewhere but I can't find it anywhere myself either!

Anyway, here is a ripper article from the Autospeed website from BA launch which goes into a fair bit of depth on the Barra 182 engine ....

Re: Towing with a Territory

The AWD Territory and the RWD with heavy duty tow pack come standard with a auto trans cooler. It is the latest air/oil cooler technology,is same lenght as the condensor & decent height & thickness.
The cooler is rated for the max towing capacity.

Ford also dropped the auto trans service interval down to 45,000km from 100,000km for severe driving. Which is short trips & stop start city driving, continuous high speed driving & towing.
45,000 is about right for trans servicing, 100,000 was far to optomistic & was mainly meant to please the fleet market.
At 100,000 km for the first service the trans was a mess; burnt sludgy oil, blocked filter, worn rear bush, leaking servo, worn solenoids.

Make sure that what ever you buy has a decent cooler fitted.

I'd only be contemplating the genuine Ford towpacks as your option. You can get away with buying non genuine headlight guards and other stuff, but I'd never be stuffing around with something as important as a towbar .... the 2300kg Ford pack includes the trans cooler and the load levelling bars .... best still it is the only tow package Ford approves ... so you maintain the benfit of the vehicle warranty .... using anything else puts that at risk ....

Re: Towing with a Territory

on derating for the XR6T to 1600kg;
I thought the trans was the same in both standard and turbo? so didn't think that was the limiter.
The SS has probably got similar height/body kit issues to the XR6, and it's rated at 2100kg same as a normal commodore.
That's why we assumed it to be heatload in the engine bay. They get bloody hot as it is on a summers day - let alone putting a couple of tonne on the back....

Sounds like the Territory's 2300kg towpack is well set out. I'd certainly be looking at original kit anyway (with whatever brand of vehicle).

Think I'm going to have to put the hard word on the fleet guys again to hunt me down a towbar equipped unit to have a weekend play with. Might be easier said than done unfortunately (hence the original question)

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
